Simon Smith
Two years ago I replaced the head gasket and the bolts, the head had a light skim and all was well for a while. A few months later and it developed a slight oil leak at the front of the head, now the leak is getting worse and I think I need to do the job again. I seem to remember a discussion about the different quality of various gaskets and that some were prone to leaking in this area. Which gasket is considered the best available by everyone? I really don't want to keep having to do this. Edited December 27, 2022 by Simon Smith
monkie
I use the Elring head gasket which can be found here. Note that different thicknesses are available depending upon the piston protrusion relative to the deck of the block.

Simon Smith
Fairly certain that's what we used. Came from Turner, they're just down the road.
western
Elring everytime for my 200tdi, the oil leak maybe from the semi circle seal at front of cylinder head & rocker cover
miketomcat
Elring for me too. However the current gasket isn't because I was skint and in a hurry (having done three head gaskets on the same engine this year). Mike

You can see oil seeping out of the cylinder head joint with the engine running, and I think it started to "chuff" quietly today too.
miketomcat
Daft question but did you get all the oil/water out of the bolt holes before the head was fitted. It's easy to forget and it only takes a small amount to hydraulic the bolt, then it torque's correctly but is in fact loose. Mike
