AD90
Has anyone got a diagram showing the correct orientation for the installation of these seals? (FTC4785G) Also does anyone have experience of Britpart Stub-shafts (FTC3188) I ask as I have just spent a bit of time swearing at a Britpart rear crossmember. Thanks AD90

v8bertha
Either I've been fitting these wrongly for the past few years without any leaks and am about to make a right tit of myself or I've misunderstood Western's response... FTC4785G (Corteco?) should have a sticky uppy lip. This goes towards the stub axle. According to the printing on the actual seal it should be fit to a depth of 4mm. A cunning little trick I use when fitting these is to use the drive member as a drift... its the perfick size. Unfortunately it fits the oil seal to a depth of 6mm if you keep hitting it, so be gentle. Using the wonderous powers of Microsoft Word I have knocked up the following highly technical drawing Sorry, no idea about Britpart stub axles, but may be worth having some emery paper at the ready HTH Dan
Mo Murphy
I do them the same as Dan, as above. Mo

AD90
Thanks guys, I have fitted it the right way. Probably the pitting on the stub-shaft that is causing the leak, hence the question about the Britpart stub-shaft. £35+VAT as opposed to £69+VAT from LR Cheers AD90
GBMUD
Buy the Landrover one, that way, you will only have to buy once. The last Britpart one I had was so oversized it had to visit the lathe before I could fit a bearing over it. Chris
AD90
Thanks Chris, I have tried polishing the seal areas and fitting the seal a little deeper into the hub. Hopefully that will do the trick for now. AD90
