muddychris300tdi
Hi i need to change my cv joints 24 spline on my disco, are brit part ok in this area or should i use another make? And while its all off i want to change my front discs for drilled and grooved, looking at the ebc ones from paddocks. Are these ok or should i use another make? white90
Britpart CV's are ok they tend to break on the stub section rather than the bell like GKN ones. Grooved/slotted discs are on a disco a waste of good money in my opinion. just fit decent (borg beck/EBC) ones and save the cash.
muddychris300tdi
Thanks i thought i would get more stopping power with drilled and grooved.
Bowie69
Thanks i thought i would get more stopping power with drilled and grooved. Nope... less braking, but you get better temperature tolerance
missingsid
Thanks i thought i would get more stopping power with drilled and grooved. I may be wrong but I believe that a comment in a previous thread suggested that they would just clog up with mud? These were an on road mod for uprated RRs so it would make sense I guess. muddychris300tdi
I suppose they would fill with mud.
Astro_Al
Drilling of brake discs is ONLY done for mass savings. Cooling and therefore better heat build-up tolerance is all done through venting. Al.
Bowie69
... and grooved helps remove pad glazing under extreme temperatures, which is mainly what I was referring to.
muddychris300tdi
So standard discs then, might do the rear aswell as the rear green stuff pads have lasted all of 6 months.

Hybrid_From_Hell
Go branded with a reputation its F BRAKES FFS Mintex are good borg n beck, or genuine, aviod anything in a white box - where the maker doesn't want to advertise who they are and own up to making them, or I would say ***Part which I have know many to have run out issues with nige

Astro_Al
As for the comment about drilling only saving weight I find this hard to believe... Yeah, lots of people do. Al.

Chris if you plan to take the truck off road don't buy the drilled/groved ones from paddocks. had them on my challenge truck and the wholes/grooves filled with dirt that wasimmpossible to remove and that wore the pads in no time. standard ones are much better for off road use.
