defender dinky
hi all, front axle on my 90 leaks everywhere two swivels and the diff, so decided to put on a disco axle which i have with no leaks, but looking at the calipers there seems to be two brake pipes feeding the disco calipers but only one feeding the 90 caliper can i use the defender caliper or can i get a t junction to feed the two pipes at the caliper cheer's defender dinky
western
Yes, just feed the 2 lines into the horizontal part of the T & the original line to the vertical centre leg.
Orange
Just use the defender brake calipers... Saves having to disconnect and bleed the system again! Make sure you change the discs if they are vented ones, though, or you may find it a little tight to get pads in!!
Hybrid_From_Hell
Many discos have the inners shafts at 32 spline at the CV - these are absolutely hopless off road and are far far weaker than your 90 axle, so thing twice before the swap Nige
defender dinky
hi thanks for all your replies, the axle is off a 92 disco, the drive flange on the rear axle looks built in with the shafts looks like 10 spline thou, i will have a look tomoz cheer's again defender dinky
Hybrid_From_Hell
Also look at the Jockey arms as there are 2 types, narriow and wide, you may have one axle of each type with the year 90 you have Nige
ajh
Yeah, ran into needing spacers for my front axle when I put in a D1 front housing (for swaybar mounts and sewercapping etc).
bishbosh
Hold on a minute.... Before you go stripping axles and swapping calipers etc, take one bolt out of one caliper on one axle and see if it exactly the same as one on the other axle. I was going to put a RR axle under my 90 and abandoned it due to the twin brake line issue, then thought I'd use the Defender calipers on the RR axle as it was in much better nick, but the bolts were different diameters which would have resulted in the caliper being able to rattle around. Not a good idea, the caliper botls are in close tolerance holes so the shank of the bolt must be almost an interference fit on the caliper. Rebuilt the defender axle in the end. The two axles were 1989 90 and 1992 RR (with ABS).
ciderman
Find a later Metric Disco axle , Use your 90 diff, shafts and cvs ,Fit your Hubs and stubs to the disco swivels and your calliper bolts will be right as well, Or use the single line disco callipers .
