Hybrid_From_Hell
This is an odd one, I have been trying to sort the owner out for a while now, nothing so far has had much effect Rover V8 Running MS1 V3 MS SnE (EDIS 8) "The Issue" Starts when cold on the button, ...warms up runs 'sweet as a sweet thing'... But If you then switch it off.... it won't start until it cools down to below 50 .....once below 50 it starts......again 'sweet'. So far he / we / I have : Changed all plugs Changed CTS Chnaged MAT Checked earths Checked reloaded Firmware and ECU MSQ Done a log, all looks fine Check air filter Engine runs cold (Rear Engine racer big rad and fans) so dropped WUE to 100% for all cells in case of flooding checked VR Sensor and conectors Just asked him to check fuel pressures and PRV When running everything checks out Anyone any ideas ? (and I am only thinking that there must be more than the above tried so far ) ???? Nige
TheRecklessEngineer
My gut says fuel. I'd be checking PRV and fuel pressure too. Had a similar issue on a kit car - it was heat soak causing a vapour lock in the fuel pump (external).
FridgeFreezer
You may have changed WUE but have you fiddled with the cranking fuelling? Could be flooding/starving it during cranking. Does everything look OK when it's refusing to start (all gauges in spec in MT) or anything amiss?

Dave W
As above, cranking fuel setting is where I'd start. Until the rpm exceeds the cranking speed rpm the cranking fuel pulse width is the only thing used as a basis to calculate fuelling. I'd guess that your cranking pw is set too high and your WUE may be too low when it's cold, you need to get the cranking pw set when it's hot and let the WUE compensate for that when it's cold. When you are cranking and it doesn't start, is it trying to fire at all (catching and dying ?) or is it as dead as a dead thing ? Not sure why you'd change sensors out unless megatune was showing something amiss, was it ? Is it using a standard fuel rail/return setup ? (thinking about possible fuel vapour locks)
Hybrid_From_Hell
^^ All cracking stuff, all tried too Sensors as I was getting desperate and they were unknown origins On cranking everything seems fine, has spark and fuel, just will not B Fire Nige
jonost24
Although ther's a spark, is it strong? Are the coilpacks good? I'm no expert, just thinks I've heard previously
V8 Freak
Nige... Whats in the heat soak area? (Coolant related air density stuff...) If it only starts below 50 degrees but runs well from below 50, surely it's got to be fuel related? Have you zero'd warm up enrichments over 40 Degrees to see if it makes a difference ? Just finkin... Neil

zoltan
Is it exactly 50 as in exactly the figure 50 according to Megatune etc or around 50 according to temp gauge?
Dave W
What does it do if you try and start it in "flood clear" mode ?
Hybrid_From_Hell
^^^ NOTHING, I have had some seriously odd MS Issues, worked all out in the end but this is doing my head in, working by phone doesn't help, have given him last night a raft of things to check, so far all have had B all effect Nige
FridgeFreezer
Tried unplugging the temp sensor so it defaults to a known value?
Hybrid_From_Hell
Tried unplugging the temp sensor so it defaults to a known value? Yup and the resisitor trick Nuffin, still won't start when hot, drop to 50 degrees and starts like a pussycat and purrs, seriously werid - can't think - but is there anything in the ECU that could cause this if some internal smokr found its way out ? zoltan
Tried a leak down or compression test or sniffed the coolant?

Hybrid_From_Hell
Hmmm Thats plan H at the moment as he will have to use insured post etc, rapidly moving towards testing with known good units Nige

TheRecklessEngineer
Clues please! Wasn't something silly setup in MT was it? EGO correction turned on for cranking or something equally ridiculous?

Hybrid_From_Hell
Right Lets have some Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuun The forum members interested in this have a collective 20 Questions.
