wanderlust4ever
Can anybody please tell me, which make are the original hub bearings on a 110. The prices for Timken bearing's are around 10 quid a piece but looking on L.R.Series web site the Genuine one's are more than 33 quid each, is there any difference between these two bearings, or are the genuine one's also Timken. Many thanks for your help
bishbosh
Go for Timken every time. They are the only bearing manufacturer to use. Don't know who makes the genuine part, but Timken are at least as good if not better.
adam300Tdi90
Use Timkin... they are very very good quality. I think genuine are GKN, but not exactly sure. I know the general concensus is to use Timkin...
LandyManLuke
Timken and GKN are both well respected manufacturers. Remember, Landrover don't actually make components - they're all bought from OEMs.
wanderlust4ever
Many thanks for your reply's lads. But are the GKN bearings 3 times better than the Timken ones, as they are 3 times more expensive ?????? We are preparing for a RTW trip in two years time, and don't won't to have any problems along the way.
western
probably only more expensive cos they're in a LR box.
Retroanaconda
That's just Land Rover's markup you're seeing. £10 says if you bought the £33 ones they would be Timken bearings in a LR box
landroversforever
Timkin ones for me
Sirocco
Pretty sure Timken are what you will find in the LR box. dont LR guarantee their parts for 12 months? maybe thats why there is a markup. I only think this because my indi garage will only use genuine parts. I have to get him the parts if I want to use something cheaper. dont buy britpart whatever you do. pack a spare pair for your trip, just in case G
western
http://www.timken.com/en-us/products/Pages/Catalogs.aspx should be able to source from engineering/bearing suppliers as a alternative to LR parts suppliers. timken part number LM603049 = the bearing/inner race & LM603011 = the outer race [looking at a my spare set on my desk] these are in a orange/black Timken box with a LR part number of RTC3429 which is used by ALLMAKES as a cross ref to thier own stock system.
