Mo Murphy
All it would take would be a resistance reading between pins 5 and 9 on the lower plug aperture. Next time I'm down the workshop I'll try it with one of my spare Td5 heads. I have one here but the multimeter is typically down there! PS: Chris, what make was your 300Tdi sender. Didn't come in a blue box did it? I'm looking forward to the result, James. Apologies to the original poster for the hijack Mo
landroversforever
I have multimeter and Speedo on my desk... how are the pins counted?
Retroanaconda
Between 5 and 9 here I think:
Mo Murphy
Ross, middle, lower row is 5 and depending on which way round the diagram is 9 is either the 1st or last on the bottom row. Try both Mo
landroversforever
Mine is reading 13.38k Ohms. HTH
Mo Murphy
Thats not much !
Retroanaconda
Interesting, perhaps it's not as simple as a single resistor in there. Maybe a damping circuit or something? Unless someone opens one up I guess we'll never know
crclifford
I can only assume there's a source of extra resistance then, that's causing the gauge to read low.Or it's reading correct and your engine just isn't warming up of course, leaky thermostat etc. Here's a photo of my gauge after a 2 hour motorway journey this evening.... Travelling at 65/70 on the M4/M25 It did read a bit higher this morning when i was towing the trailer with JCB on it and again when i was shunting the empty trailer back to it's parking spot!! I'm hoping that it's just an engine that runs cool!!!!! And apologies to the OP about the hijack!! Chris Sorry about the photo size!!! not sure how to resize it
Phillis
'crclifford' are those original bulbs in those td5 dash or led? there rather bright? cheers
western
Td5 gauges are much brighter than the older gauges, mine are the same.
crclifford
^^^^ As western says, they are the original bulbs in the gauges...the small gauges look like they are led types, the speedo is a bulb style light. Chris
Retroanaconda
The small ones do look like LEDs, but they're in fact standard 286 filament bulbs: http://www.retroanaconda.com/landrover/2009/10/td5-gauges-bulb-information/ It's just the lighting design of the gauges is 100000 times better
