badgerbob
Hi all i have just bought a disco 1 the truck has been standing for a long time and really good to do with a new cell what batterry should be on it and what is the best batterry that will fit in the hole and give the best cranking amp
disco_al
the recommended one (or what's listed in my book) is an 072, which gives 590CCA @ 72aH. It all depends on the dimensions of the battery tray though, as an 072 is a tight fit in there. The D2 has a recommended battery type of 664, which is 735 CCA @ 105aH, but then it has a lot more electronics to run.
BogMonster
072 is the best bet, which is also what is fitted to D2 V8's, only the Td5 has the big battery, and my D2 is still on its original battery, will be 9 years in April, so though it needs the odd charge I really can't complain
rambo67
The battery in my latest disco is massive and only just fits ! nicedayforit
I got my last 072 battery for my disco 6 years ago from these people, still going strong. http://www.performancebatteries.co.uk/ Had a few for other cars, no problems. teabag
When your D1 left the factory it was a 072 580CCA so LR must think that size is ok, after all if you have a standard disco you only need a battery to start the engine.
FridgeFreezer
I'd just walk into the nearest battery place and give them the dimensions of the space and which way round the terminals are and get the most capacity that will fit, otherwise you get a battery of the "correct" capacity and a load of spare air in the battery box. teabag
Two months ago I purchased from Performance Batteries an Aphaline battery at 278mm x 175mm x 190mm it just fitted, so two months on it's brilliant now to see if it lasts aslong as the Lucas (9 years old) battery it replaces.
