4x4 Quandry - what should I maybe buy ?

Remarkably on a LR forum I too would like to add weight to the Subaru option. I replaced my disco with a Forester, and its just a fantastic little car.

The build quality is fantastic. All of the fasteners are plated and come apart easily (even at the rear when fitting a tow bar), and the body seems to be very well corrosion protected.

Driving is a unique experience, the flat 4 boxer is entirely vibration free and it runs like a watch. The steering, brakes and suspension triad is very impressive.

On the downside? Wheel bearings do not last very long, but that is about it.

Excels in the snow too BTW.

Cheers

Chris.

A very good friend of mine has recently taken delivery of his Skoda Yeti. There is a waitng list for them, about six months, but he has found it very good for his work travelling around remote parts of Yorkshire. I know this goes against the LR flavour of this forum, but £20k for a very good allround soft roader or £30k plus for a freelander?

I too use a BMW three series as a daily drive and agree, rear wheel drive in the snow and ice make for an interesting journey, but still thoroughly enjoy driving both my 110 CSW and my Series II. They all have different character.

But hey ho, you pay your money and take your choice. HFH all I'll say is you have to live with your purchase, so where one vehicle may suit one person, it may be completly useless for someone else.

Coincidence that you should mention the Yet as my OH had her second test drive in one last weekend and came away suitably impressed. Bearing in mind it is what SHE wants and not me I think there is a strong possibility that, or another CRV is what she will go for.

That was the same shortlist we came to.

But we got the 2wd Yeti as it was 16k with most of the toys.

Bought a set of better tyres for winter as I said above.

It's so good I've now sold my 2 year old Range Rover TDV8 Vogue SE and bought a Skoda too. Yes, really. :D Saved a fortune!
