Vibration

Recommended Posts

I'm getting a vibration though the steering wheel between about 50 mph and 65 mph.

Any ideas what it might be?

Thanks,

Guy

Obvious ones to check:

Panhard rod bushes

UJ's

Steering damper operation

Less obvious but equally as effective at giving wobbles:

front radius arm bushes ( axle end )

Silly lift kit just fitted!

Tyre condition

Balance weight fallen off wheel

Any of the steering ball joints

Thanks for all of this. Having had a check round, i've come to the conclusion it is the wheels out of balance. the vibration is very distinctly though the wheels. Had all the problems listed above over the years and it does feel diffrent to them.

Thanks,

Guy

Well having spent ages tracking down sterring props on the Disco that as it happened were caused by a duff tyre and now on the 90 having a floor shaking vibration (felt like prop and I knew the diff pinion was duff but changing diff didn't fix it) also going away when I swapped tyres I'd strongly suggest you swap some tyres round first. for the time it takes it is well worth the effort (only wish I'd tried this myself!).

Hi Guy,

Vibration that is specific to a certain speed 'band' is most likely to be wheels out of balance. The out of balance could be due to tyre deformation, buckled wheel, mud stuck to the rim, or lost balance weights.

Regards,

Diff
