Sammy_D
Hey guys. Going to give my 90 a good clean underneath. Take the diff protectors off and scrape out all mud. I heard of a thing called wax oil?? Can you make this? Also what else can I do to the under side? Ta
nickwilliams
This is what you are after (although Halfords ain't necessarily the best place to buy it - any motor factor is likely to keep it in stock. When I re-built mine, I gave the underside of the tub a liberal coat of 3M Shutz before I re-assembled it. There's no point in putting the stuff on anything other than a clean, dry surface but if you can clean it up enough to paint then this will help ward of the metal moth for a while longer. NIck. Sammy_D
Thanks nick. Where are the main parts to protect?
Happyoldgit
This subject has been covered on numerous occasions, do a forum search for 'Waxoyl' or Waxoil' (or variations along those lines), 'Dinitrol' 'Rustproofing' etc etc. You might like to checkout the technical forum also. nickwilliams
Places where corrosion is the biggest problem in my experience: - Inside and outside the chassis outriggers - Anywhere on the rear cross member - The fuel filler pipe - Where the joint between the rear tub and the seat box is supported by the vertical outriggers from the chassis - The lower part of the front inner wings, where stone picked up by the wheels tend to hit them - Inside the vertical pillars at the sides of the front bulkhead, where the door hinges are fixed - The front sill support channels - Along the bottom of the doors Anyone else got any offers? FridgeFreezer
Best thing you can do is CLEAN IT, mud traps water & lets it all rot while it stands.
