Lorrick
Greetings to you all from a Newbie ,I have had a couple of 110's in the past to do with work and have just bought a 2002 Hardtop as I now I work for my self , I am paying a bit more attention to this one now as it's mine Does the 110 have the wiring in situ for the fitting of Electric window motors? and if not has anyone fitted any to a standard door. Also the top inside metal door strip that the door cover hooks over is cracked and broken, is this common and I take it you just weld it back together again. Lastly anyone have the Hardy Spicer part number for the PTO Take off for the winch. Regards Richard
Retroanaconda
It is unlikely that your 110's main harness will have the wiring for electric windows in place if it is not specced for it. Does it have central locking? Are there wire tubes going from the A-pillar into the door, just under the check strap? Fitting electric windows is fairly straightforward, either use an aftermarket kit (though you'd have to find one that fits the quite thin doors of a Defender), or buy the pukka genuine parts (motors, mechanisms, mountings etc). The more interesting part of it is the switches. Of course you can just put aftermarket switches in the dash somewhere and wire it all up (the wiring is very simple after all, fused supply > switch > motor > earth), but one has to admit it would be nicer to use the pukka electric window switches (like this). Only issue is finding the plugs to fit on the back of them, I got round it by buying a complete loom for an electric-window-equipped Td5 and stealing the plugs/wiring out of that. I have heard of people just using plain terminals and pushing them onto the switch pins manually, which is one way of doing it!
Landy-Novice
welcome! :D electric windows, there are many kits on the market, its just the case of finding them. but here are a couple to get you going in the right direction! i think Chelsea tractor did this to his 2001 td5, ask him. i hope this helps http://www.spalautomotive.co.uk/acatalog/SPAL_ELECTRIC_WINDOW_CONVERSION_KITS.html http://www.mm-4x4.co...90110-636-p.asp http://www.ebay.co.u...2&_qi=RTM637056 Edited August 10, 2011 by landy-novice
Lorrick
Thanks to you both, I will look into it a bit further, but it show it is not to hard to do. Cheers Richard
PaulMc
There's an article in this months LRM (Sept. 2011) showing how they fitted Electric Windows to Lindsay Porter's post-2002 Defender, using Land Rover parts. They used Carling switches to operate them but, apart from sourcing the switch connectors, the Land Rover switches are easier and, IMHO, look better. . They were an aftermarket kit and were utter carp. IIRC the first breakage was on day one. Jon has regressed to a S3 these days so may not see this thread.
