I have a P plate 300tdi that has done 230,00 miles and as per usual it suffered with a fair bit of rot in the sills and boot and wings and...... you get the picture. It failed its MOT and stayed off the road until i could afford to get it fixed. Before this, it was quick enough but not fantastic. Since i got it back in november it has struggled to get above 60 - 65 mph, obviously sitting with £5 worth of diesel in the tank for 9 months hasnt helped but i have had £400 worth through the tank since then and changed all the filters and oil. It is sitting on 235/85/16 all terrains with a 2 inch lift. The lift has been done since i got it back but it was running fine with the tyres before that. I am planning to fit a decat pipe and clean out the intercooler in the next week or so but it wasnt like this before it stood. Any idea what could be causing it? TSD Posted March 15, 2012 Share Posted March 15, 2012 If you've changed the fuel filter, then the next most likely IMHO would be the lift pump. Check the boost control line from the turbo to the FIP is intact. Maybe check the diaphragm in the top of the FIP and make sure its not rusted solid after sitting for so long. cackshifter Posted March 15, 2012 Share Posted March 15, 2012 Could it just be soft tyres or binding brakes? I can't imagine why the engine will have lost power over time. Maybe (long shot) rings are sticking and it's got a few miles on the clock and this should show up with a compression test. godzilla84 Posted March 16, 2012 Author Share Posted March 16, 2012 Thanks for the advice guys. Tyres are at 35psi front and rear. EGR is blanked off. I have been thinking of swapping to silicone intercooler hoses when I take it off to clean it out. coachman Posted March 17, 2012 Share Posted March 17, 2012 Hello again fellow Discovery people , my Discovery is a 300tdi automatic and my son says it is sluggish ,I drive steady so it does not bother bme ,what is interesting is the varying comments on the lift pump ,how do you detect a fault , is it a strip down or how ? Could it cause the vehicle to be sluggish ? I took the advise of putting /mixing 2 t oil with the diesel ,it can`t do any harm after all . What are the other components mentioned ,I do not understand abreviations ,please enlighten . The learned among our group tell me that I should have central locking , well on cleaning down the car I removed the rear door panel and found a gismo ,does this ( photo )indicate a `yes you do` other photo`s show the extent of a dog loving Discovery . Snagger Posted May 18, 2012 Share Posted May 18, 2012 My 300 Tdi has a seized turbo response system - the diaphragm can't increase the fueling in response to boost from the turbo charger. It's an assembly fault (the timing was also way off, needingt he sprocket to be reset on the main shaft), but as it was second hand from a cast Wolf engine (and I'm guessing they cast the engine because this brand new pump failed to cure a running issue), I have no come-back on it.
