need4speed
As title. On fitting the plenum base i discovered a loose stack/trumpet. It appears that its all the way home in the base so i assume i need to seal it in with something. Whats the best thing to use? Would i be best to seal them all seeing as i have 1 loose maybe others will follow??
Hybrid_From_Hell
Clean both areas with brake cleaner Score surface to clean and give a key Use - Bearing sealer, loctite 243 Loctite 270 - JB weld (but get tube warm 1st or it will be too thick !) need4speed
Thanks Nige. Do you think its worth doing them all, or just the loose one? Is it a common prob?
Hybrid_From_Hell
I had 2 x l;oose on 5.2, whatever you use clean clean clean and must be il and fuel proof !If they don't move with a good grip / twist no, Nige
Mr Noisy
Could chop 10mm of each one whilst youre there if yours is a 3.9 or larger
Mr Noisy
ooo 4.6? maybe 15mm then, the 4.6 does respond to a little trumpet chop
need4speed
Hmmm. Im interested in this trumpet chopping you speak of! If its worthwhile i may as well do them while im in there with the sealer eh?
CwazyWabbit
I thought trumpet chopping improved high revs at the detriment to low end grunt? or was it the other way around? The mind isn't what it used to be .....

FridgeFreezer
Longer intake tracts do improve low down torque, hence the bunch-of-bananas Thor manifold which gains quite a few torques.
Mr Noisy
Yes indeed true, longer intakes = torques however it is fair to say that the 4.6 has a good amount of torques already and the benefits of a top end increase outweigh the loss in torques from the low end. the more you chop the more top end you get with a flatter sub 2500 rpm zone. OP, it is definitely worth your research, and as i say already, on a 4.6 its almost a given that you should be removing some trumpet. cheers
