jameshub
I noticed on Sunday that my left rear wheel had oil splatter marks after I had driven it for an hour.......any though what has gone? (all other wheels are fine)
jbs
Check your breather pipe and banjo bolt isn't blocked on top of the axle-9/16 AF spanner or 15mm 6 pointed socket(300 tdi and below) will undo it, make sure you take care when removing it as there should be two copper washers on the bolt-try not to lose them lol, you'll find If your breather is blocked it'll always leak oil out of that end of the axle-well mine does anyway, as theres no where for any pressure to build up to escape too hth John

landroversforever
Inside or outside of wheel? Inside - likely to be the hub seal leaking down to either a knackered seal or the blocked breather as above. Outside - the rubber cap split on the drive member (assuming yours has them!) Outside - the rubber cap split on the drive member (assuming yours has them!) its outside and the black cap does look a bit cracked.......so would you recommend just changing that and seeing what happens over few days? landroversforever
That's what I'd do. They are easy to damage, and they do crack over time as well. When its off, make sure the area it sits on is like and clean. The groove gets rust and dirt in it.

mmgemini
Change the cap. I bit of EP into the cap keeps the halfshaft splines lubricated. Check also that the outer end of the halfshaft isn't worn. The hub flange is supposed to be reasonably tight on the inside to the splines. If it's not tight there the halfshaft will push the cap off. Bowie69
If it's leaking out the cap, also still check the breather after replacing the cap.
carlosbeldia
How can I take the breather out in aTD5? I don't have a banjo, just a little hose that goes inside the axle case.
Bowie69
It does pull out, but be careful, they are plastic and can break. Not sure about TD5s, but you can fit push-fit airline connectors in the place of the older banjo type.
Retroanaconda
How can I take the breather out in aTD5? I don't have a banjo, just a little hose that goes inside the axle case. There should be a release ring around it, push this down while pulling the pipe up.
jameshub
this is a picture of my wheel with the issue.....any thoughts?
Bowie69
Have you popped the cap off and cleaned the breather out? TBH, that doesn't very bad for an oil leak Pics here are more indicative of a serious failure: http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=33908
