Bingy
Have you had it up to 2500rpm? Nope the vid is the best and longest its run Maybe im too cautious
Bowie69
Maybe im too cautious Yes I am beginning to think so, you shouldn't really let it idle at all with a new cam in it, you can scrap it quite quickly if you don't follow the running in procedure. Trying to remember the oil ways in a V8, but one will get oil before the other for sure. I honestly think bring it up to 2500 and hold it for a while and it will get better, I know mine have done this for me after rebuild. It sounds quite sweet in all honesty, hard to hear it is misfiring....
TheRecklessEngineer
It doesn't sound like a terminal engine problem. Get the cam run in and then come back to it. Even if it's just running on 4 for the duration you're unlikely to break anything.
Mr Noisy
Yep, cam won't know how many are firing, it just needs running up! Regular start and stop will wear the lobes off quickly, the loading on the cam is at its highest at idle.
Mr Noisy
I mean I assume you have a spark and you have some fuel, both of which are ending up in the correct cylinders at the correct time? If so, it'll run
FridgeFreezer
when i started the engine, strangeley it only ran on 4 cylinders from one set of coilsi swapped the coil for the other and strangeley it was the same cylionders firing and not the opposite ones ruling out the coils. So, very basic question: Have you got +12v to the plug for the non-working coil bank?
Bingy
So, very basic question: Have you got +12v to the plug for the non-working coil bank? Yes I have also had the noid tester flashing away on the cylinders and also the inline led spark testers. But as Mr Noisy has pionted out, are they doing it at the right time? How do i check this out?
Bowie69
Get the cam run in and then worry about it, then you won't scrap the cam and followers and have to pull it all apart again. To check they are firing in the right order, you just need to check your wiring in all honesty, ABCD from the EDIS and the associated plug numbers 6&1, 8&5, 4&7, 2&3. Once you have the cam run in you can check the timing properly with a gun pointing at the pulley/timing marks and connected to either plug lead #1 or #6. As long as you have the ABCD and plug wires in the right place, it will be fine. The injectors are just bank fired (4 or even all 8 at once depending on setting) so they will make precious little difference to the running as 3 of the 4 are squirting at the back of a valve anyways. Bingy
Next installment.... Finally got the inlets etc back from porting nice work all put back on. All megasqiurt wiring back on Then i realized. Staring me in the face, despite looking, looking, looking and more looking. Maybe i am getting mixed up with work, welders etc, thinking about settings too much. ABCD, ABCD, ABCD, ABCD not errr.........ABDC! (Yes i am THE richard head) Turned key. Cough splutter Turned key again............Bingo! All 8 firing as should https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jrfcfCzCsC0 Quickly upto 3000-3500rpm Ran spot on for a good 5 mins then oil hose blew off cooler. So stopped straight away. But I can now get two new ones made up from my local supplier this week as these are standard ones chopped about to fit. But BIG thanks for your patience! I'll be back once ive fit the new hoses and Once ive done another 25 mins @ 3000 next weekend hopefully Music to my ears Thanks again
