Daan
I have good stories about great basin, I think Jez from HOFS used to run them in his range rover without problems.
Lewis
It seems Ced broke a pair http://www.defendersource.com/forum/printthread.php?t=2684 I don't know if he still frequents this forum but you could probably contact him on the devon4x4 forum
Mr Noisy
Have seen the eBay pair and spoken to seller Saving grace with Ashcroft is you are guaranteed working cv joints for 5 years If you are into breaking components then £120 a year for cvs is not much money in all fairness
mikec
Thing is I'm not running huge tyres or anything but I've broke a few cvs so something midway between Ashcroft and oe would be great.
Mr Noisy
I've just bolted together an axle build for my disco using a fair bit of Ashcroft I've skimped on cvs though and fitted bearmach 2522s brand new Gonna see how they do Only cheap so not fussed but can't stretch to Ashcroft cvs yet They look and probably are very good as the seller states How have you managed to blow cvs mate? mikec
Yeah I got Ashcroft shafts to go in too. I bought a gkn one off eBay a little while ago so I'll see how that goes. I've not broke loads of cvs maybe 5/6 in a few years but it's the inconvenience of breaking em, plus all but one was with the old engine too
Mr Noisy
I can't figure out how I never did a cv in mine, and that's disco 10/32 units Always had lockers though really so maybe that helps with shock loading etc
mikec
Dunno mate, I didn't for ages, but busy a diff and a few shafts then started doing cvs suppose it's all down to the castings and that cos I've defo broke more since I did the original
bill van snorkle
For those whose funds can't stretch to the High strength items,Try dismantling normal CV joints and getting to work on the components with a die grinder to remove all the sharp edges and corners of the bell, cage and star. I have had good results doing this on a couple of vehicles now that were frequent consumers of CV's.
