ejparrott
You need the proper manual ISBN 1-855-20512-2 http://www.abebooks.co.uk/servlet/BookDetailsPL?bi=11049738471&afn_sr=CJ&cm_ven=aff&cm_ite=cj

zim
Rave is what you need to download.
FridgeFreezer
RAVE Manuals pinned at the top of the part numbers forum last time I looked, although really the mods could pin the RAVE link to the top of every forum! Hint hint
ejparrott
'Friad I don't get on with RAVE at all, or Microcat, I much prefer a real book.
discomikey
just print RAVE off then, mind, might take a while and a bit of ink!
FridgeFreezer
I find the factory parts catalogues are the most useful papery-format books as they show everything in an exploded diagram, usually you can work out from that how to do whatever it is, with reference to RAVE or the like for specifics like torque settings where needed. discomikey
i agree FF, also use the parts book during a rebuild its great for creating a shopping list without actually going outside. especially useful if you havent taken it apart yet and its rarely "wrong"
russianfrog
I am looking for a simple manual explaining the basics about what is what in the car. I have a Defender from 2007 and I wonder if the Haines manual "1983 to 2007" is what I need. Do you know if there is an updated manual, or anyway the car remains prety much the same any manual will do?
gazelle
I have found the Technical archive on here a very useful resource for some of the stuff I have attempted. Have a look at the index to see if what you are looking for is covered. http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=4731
