JeffR
Now that the family hack appears to be behaving itself, yesterday was revving it and noticed that the wastegate lever does not move regardless of revs. Yes you can move it by hand (well using pliers) and it springs back quite happily, so not seized. At what rev range should it activate?
Retroanaconda
It probably won't activate with it sat still revving, it responds to boost pressure which is only really generated when the engine is under load and throttle is applied - i.e. heading up a big hill at speed.
vulcan bomber
As Retro says, it's Controlled/controls boost pressure and sat raving the engine won't produce enough boost to make it move. They start moving at about 10ish psi of boost.
HoSS
No such thing as a dumb question. Dumb is not asking and remaining uninformed I'm not an expert on these - but i know when chasing a TD5 fault we saw the same, it didnt seem to move. Fault turned out to be an injector, so the gate was fine.
discomikey
as stated above, to test the wastegate plumb in a low pressure air feed and you should see it move. dont put more than 20 PSI through it, if you have a compressor stock it up on air and then unplug it, drain it till there is 20PSI max in there and then test. Boydie
I had the same problem with adjusting mine. My solution was to connect a bicycle pump with an accurate 3" diameter 0 - 25 psi pressure gauge to the "T" piece where the tube to the FIP would normally connect to so that pressure was being applied to the regulator, a small 1/8" gas/fuel valve was installed to enable me to hold the pressure in the line. By pumping up the pressure I was able to adjust the flap so that it began to open at 13psi and was fully open at 14.5psi. On idle, regardless of revs it doesn't move. I don't know of any other way you can adjust these flaps.
