Landrovernuts
Is there an easy way to remove tinting from windows? Mine which came with the vehicle looks rubbish as it has been scratched and makes looking in the side mirrors hard and impossible when it is dark. Tanuki
Hot-air-gun and wallpaper scraper. Take care not to focus the heat on one spot for too long or you may have the glass shatter. Once you've got the worst of it off, wipe over with Methyl Chloride [Wear gloves! Ensure good ventilation!] to remove the adhesive streaks.... Anderzander
I read about the heat - it said the heat made the glue stick to the tint rather than the window. It did the opposite. Everywhere I heated it the tint came away leaving the vast majority of the glue on the window - everywhere I didn't heat was better. I used loads of window cleaner and half a dozen single sided razor blades. Like these: https://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/361057318228
Landrovernuts
Thanks Chaps - will have to wait until I get back from South Africa. Working is calling yet again!

It only takes a light touch to get most of the tint off, and the layer of adhesive beneath it. I used acetone after to finish up.
Anderzander
Yes - I found the trick was to keep it lubricated.
mickeyw
Thankfully Defenders have flat glass, which makes this job far easier than it could be. I tried every solvent in the garage to remove or soften the film and its adhesive, but warm air worked the best. In many cases the film peeled of leaving the adhesive on the glass, and a flat scraper with brand new blade was the only way to remove that. Anderzander
It is painstaking, but well worth it.
