Cornish Rattler
Hi guys I won a later flat type roof to replace the older ribbed type roof last night so me and son are going picking it up tonight and once the s11a is stripped we will get the roof in for painting then fit it. has anyone else done this

Yostumpy
i actually did the opposite on Wallace. I took of the smooth van roof, and fitted an early csw roof, with external ribs, alpine lights, and galvernised roof rails, . Its a very strong roof compared to the later ones. Plus it came with a full fluffy headlining
Mo Murphy
I prefer the ribbed roof. Much more traditionally Land Rover looking. I fear you may be committing a Land Rover faux pas ? Mo
GW8IZR
Ribbed roof here.. wouldn't make a retrograde swap.
Cornish Rattler
The plan is to eventually fit panaramic side windows and think having a flat roof will make it look better. Will post pics tomorrow of the roof we picked up last night
miketomcat
Our 90 is an 89 vintage and that came with a flat roof as it is a station wagon. But our 110 is ribbed but you'd be hard pressed to be earlier that that. I like both but wouldn't change one for the other. The 110 could do with a new roof as someone riveted Ali over the alpine lights making it impossible to refit them without a line of rivets round them. western
late 1988 vehicles had the smooth roof for the '89 model year, my '89 110csw has the smooth roof.
Cornish Rattler
Mines a 1988 so wouldn't look to out of place ?
Mo Murphy
Trouble with flat roofs is that you get leaks where the felt overlaps. Mo ?
Cornish Rattler
Oh well we will just have to see but thanks for the heads up
GW8IZR
Trouble with flat roofs is that you get leaks where the felt overlaps. Mo You need to make sure the slope is the right way and use a propane torch when doing the edges ;-) Graham, its all a matter of choice, it will be fine whatever you do. I think the ridged roofs are more in character with the early 90 but they do seem a bit noisier - not that you can really tell.
Cornish Rattler
Ha yeah I no what you mean when we started to put the 90 back together and start painting the inside of the tub we removed all the factory carpet that was covering the wheel arches and last night going picking the roof up with my trailer was really its first mini long trip out since replacing the chassis last month and wow it was noisy compared to how it was so I think we will be getting some new sound proofing in at some point?
