jimconline
Does anyone see anything wrong with the attached photo? I purchased two ALR6250 sill seals for the front doors of my 1996 Defender 110. Should there be two seals on one door as in the photo: one on the bottom of the door and the other on the body? Seems to me there should only be one, either on the bottom of the door (which I purchased) OR on the body. In an earlier post western wrote: the pre 300tdi vehicles use a rubber seal along the body sideframe sill, the steel lip at the top edge is part of the sideframe & not available as a replacement part, the later bottom door seals fit on the door bottom face. Mine is a 300tdi so I'm thinking someone got mixed up and put on an older seal. Or maybe it's me that's mixed up? ...jim
Retroanaconda
I've always seen just one or the other. Was moved to the door to stop it getting damaged/knocked off by feet getting in/out (as yours seems to have been) I think.
western
as per my bit you've quoted above seal on sill upto & including 200tdi models] seal on door 300tdi onwards. or maybe a previous owner has fitted later 300tdi doors.
jimconline
Thank you. It's a 300tdi so the one on the sill is going. Good thing because I bought ALR6250 for the door. I've now determined ONE reason why I have to slam the door.
ianmayco68
Hi all, I was about to fit these seals to mine. I've read that you can fit the newer seals (bottom of the door type) to older defenders, mines a 200 tdi csw. Is it an upgrade worth doing do the newer seals work better ? They are cheaper than the old seals. cheers Ian
bodumatau
Sealing the bottom of a Land Rover door is not a good idea, then the water that leaks in through the top can't get out.

jimconline
I've removed both seals. Will attach the new seal to the bottom of the door. Just need to confirm: Is the sill missing anything: looks like there should be something more there?
simonpelly
Hi There, Late on to this thread. Attached is an image from my 1996 110 CSW 300Tdi Hope it helps. Let us know if you need more info. Simon...
jimconline
Thanks for the photo, Simon. Always good to compare with another vehicle of the same year. Instead of replacing the seal on the door sill like yours, I will install a new one under the door.
