mad_pete
Is it possible to change the diff lock switch without pulling the center tunnel out ?
Mo Murphy
I would have thought you could do it through the centre seat box hole. Mo
Lewis
I haven't checked but I doubt you could change it through the centre seatbox hole - I've swapped transfer boxes today and could only just reach the diff lock wiring with the tips of my fingers down the side of the front output housing
western
Gearbox tunnel & drivers floor plate has to be removed for access & visibility
Mo Murphy
Agreed Lewis but I was thinking long socket if it would fit over the switch part. Mo
Maverik
Agreed Lewis but I was thinking long socket if it would fit over the switch part. Mo A long socket will just fit over the switch , but you bend the terminal inwards when you do this, which isn't that healthy for the switch... so its ok to take an old one out this way... I think I did find a switch that slotted into the socket without this happening, will have to check my records.
Dave W
It is possible but it's a real PITA. You can get a ring spanner over it and move it around 1/4 of a turn at a time, i think that's why, on a TD5, they used a very small connector on the wiring for the diff lock switch whereas the hi-lo switch has a normal connector that won't fit through a ring spanner. I found when I did mine that it had to be done from below the vehicle, reaching around the transfer box output housing. I couldn't get to it from above. I also removed the difflock lever connection to give better access for a spanner.
Lewis
I would guess that it's more accessible with the lt85/r380 tunnel than the lt77 tunnel
mad_pete
Cool I have the lt85 tunnel I'll crawl around and see if I get lucky
