  1. I put a disco 300tdi into 90 defender and used defender gearbox mounts and defender engine mounts dropped onto repositioned 19J chassis mounts welded to suit and off side one modified and strengthened to accomodate 300 oil filter. The disco gearbox put the 300 further forward in chassis but that was good because the oil cooler pipes fitted straight on rad and all Disco intercooler pipes etc fit. The exhaust down pipe had to be modified because the 200 engine mounts were directly below the turbo outlet and were in the way. The reason 200 mounts were used was because I had originally put a 200 disco engine and boxes in but the engine failed and I got a 300 cheap so just swapped it. With the oringinaly swapped 200 sitting further forward it also meant that the 19J downpipe fitted and connected up to the original exhaust as well. The gearlever comes up at the forward edge of the seat box and is in a nice position, box had to be cut and tunnel modified but worth it in my opinion. Gearlever position
  2. I think you may be right, the offside headlamp has gone dim now, time for the lights to come out and do some fixin Thanks
  3. The indicators on my 1989 2.5n/a diesel 90 are playing up. Hazards only working on nearside Indicate left and all four flash but dim Indicate right and all is fine, good strong flash from front and rear. Any idea's please, bad earth perhaps??
  4. I put a full set of Britpart calipers and discs on my 300 tdi five months ago and they have been perfect in every way, they even still look pretty good. No leaks and brakes brilliant. Was a little apprehensive but they've been fine so far
  5. If its nearly there cant you just slcken the three bolts off and then get the pin in then tighten up again ?
  6. Could just use the crossmember then as the chassis is sound its just the bit that catches the mud from rear wheels that's a bit crusty
  7. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LAND-ROVER-SERIES-2-2A-3-REAR-CROSSMEMBER-WITH-EXTENSIONS-FAULTY-/140918670264?pt=UK_Cars_Parts_Vehicles_Other_Vehicle_Parts_Accessories_ET&hash=item20cf6843b8 Will this fit Defender 90 please, save welding patches on mine and its cheap enough and I dont have a pto so it dont matter what side the hole is
  8. I would have a go at drilling it out with a bit just smaller than the glow plug. It may well twist out during the drilling process, careful not to damage the threads and worst comes to worse you will have to take head off. The drill bit is shorter than the glow plug so you wont drill into the chamber. I think its a 3.5 bit you will need Did mine today some stiff but once twisted slightly they drew out ok (none broke off)
  9. My britpart swivel seals leaked badly from day one, they are a bad fit but not taking them off again yet. Why do they produce such rubbish ??
  10. Thanks for the tips, if boost is higher then will the pump react to this across the rev range, because its geting more pressure to the giggling pin in the whatsit on the pump. Part throttle should be ok and the inlet is bigger to accept the increase in boost so I think I will run it and see how it goes
  11. I've put a 300 turbo, inlet and exhaust manifold, intercooler and radiator on to the 200 tdi in my Defender 90. Just wondering if it will run ok, inlet is a little bigger but apart from that, wat will the boost be like? The same, less or more and will it affect the fueling. Reason I did it is because I swapped from 200 to 300 engines then back to 200 and the 300 had a new turbo so didn't want to waste it
  12. I think I'll stick to derv from now on, I've used up all the bio I bought anyway and it has cost in filters and a lift pump so the savings, are not as great as I expected.
  13. Well.... Had some old injectors in a scrap 300 so decide to swap tem and see what happened. The injectors in my motor were covered in crud at the tips I presume from running bio, I put the other spare injectors in and she fired first time and has been brilliant at starting all day so job done Also cured the stalling problem when revved and let drop to idle:)
  14. My Disco 1 has been giving trouble for a while and I thought it was fixed Changed injector pump new lift pump bypassed sediment filter new fuel filter. Starts half a turn, bursts into life when cold in a morning, no problem As the engine gets warmer it gets more difficult to start untill when at running temp it wont start at all Leave it to cool a bit and it will start with difficulty Leave it to go cold (temp on zero) and it starts straight away Older pump fitted without the three wires and alarm box Used one of the three wires as an ignition feed to the pump Thanks....I'm beflumuxed
  15. Try blowing down the fuel supply pipe. Try opening the bleed screw momentarily after say ten/fifteen pumps on the lift pump to relieve pressure and let any air out. Best if filter full of diesel first. Or get some one to spray carb cleaner or similar into air cleaner as you crank, the engine will run on it and pump the fuel through. If you have fuel at the injectors it should bleed itself
  16. Looks like I'll have to try the spare on and see if it'll fit, I'm scrapping the Disco soon and want the wheel as they now have nearly new M+S tyres on
  17. These Disco alloys to go on 1990 defender 90 ?
  18. Thanks, sounds promising then The wheels are from 1998 Disco 1 and are colour coded alloys edged with a silver rim, best just try it eh
  19. Has any one put defender tyres on Disco rims for fittment to Defender. Does that make sense? Will Defender 16" tyres fit Disco 16" ally rims Thanks
  20. It was the injector pump. Put an earlier one on that I had from a 94 300tdi and it runs better, more power than ever before, no smoke at all. Changed the front crank oil seal and cam belt and pulleys while I was at it. Thanks for all your input
  21. PM sent. Put spare injector pump on today and new cambelt, oil seal and pulleys, Hope it will start ok tomorrow when I get the rad etc back on
  22. I have a head, its on a 300 tdi which I bought for my 110 and didn't use, I have been robbing bits off it for the last two years, The head had been skimmed and a new gasket prior to my buying it, I did have it running last year but there was a little bit of blue smoke from it when we fired it up, the turbo was about shot as it happened, but we took it out anyway and put a 200 in. Its still on the engine with no injectors, I would put new stem seals in and check it over but it seems ok, I will take it off and check for cracks if you want it, cant deliver but can get it as far as Williams bros in Wrexham (near Ruabon) as we go there every day. It'll be a month or two but before end of March, engine , boxes and p/steering box spoken for and I want the axles for the 90 but you are welcome to owt else
  23. Any luck with the lift pump Reason I ask is that mine failed and it would run ok but bad starting, went to bleed it after fitting new filter and it was sucking through the bleed screw instead of blowing out. New lift pump sorted it, well sorted that problem out
  24. My '98 Disco 300tdi GS has been playing up recently, injector pump problem. Wont start without easy start and have to have tickover set above 1200rpm or she stalls. Anyway I'm going to have to swap the injector pump so she'll run but after that I want to get rid of it. the chassis is mot'able and it has all new brakes (calipers/discs/braided hoses) She has done 17 odd K and uses no oil but recently have a bit of blue smoke after starting from cold, I suspect that this is due to the faulty pump as its ok after a few mins. I want to get my 90 on the road but she needs work and I would much rather spend the time on getting her ready for mot than work on the Disco. Thing is, shall I bodge the disco for now and then use her axles on the 90 as they are very good, then scrap the disco. Would the 300tdi be best sold in parts, head, block and pistons, gearboxes as I would not sell the engine as a good one because its not perfect. Would there be a market for a Disco rolling chassis, shall I just take the axles off and weigh the rest in Or just park it next to whats left of the 110 that I gave up on 2 years ago
