  1. Wish I could photo bearings, camera is lost, not seen it for three weeks might have to buy another.. They are the correct bearings, my workshop is on the same premises as Lymm Engine Components Ltd so I have access to their stock and expertise, I can be sure that they are correct. I am thinking that they may have been over torqued, easy to set the wrench to just a little over 44 and then go a little beyond the 'click' and the total of both those 'mistakes' could add up to maybe 46/48 lbs ft Does any one know which way up the number on the end cap should be when fitted in relation to the engine, for instance....engine lay on side with turbo underneath, number right way up or wrong way up?
  2. Long story but in a nutshell..... Fitted new big end shells, engine tight but ran ok After standing a long time, came to sort it and the engine wouldn't even turn with a socket and long bar on the crank, wouldn't move at all, not even a little bit. Took engine out and slackened big end nuts off a bit and it turned fine, removed shells and they are badly marked but not scored. They were originally torqued to 44 lbs ft (not nm) which I thought was a little tight but that's what the book said Shells marked as std but going to get new ones and try again What can be up with it as original shell were ok and crank seems fine Ta
  3. Heard Cameron say today that they would dredge the waterways after the water level goes down
  4. Had mine about a month or so, great to have the space at last and they are ok. Only complaint is that the top box is always overflowing so I cant shut the lid and had to leave the middle box out cause I cant reach, I've put it separate with electrical stuff in it
  5. My 'L' reg 200 tdi Discovery has 24 spline diffs, just took one out thinking it would be ten
  6. I usually wave at Defenders and series plus any obviously cared for and loved Discos including tricked up off roaders
  7. Went to buy a similar one of these for my 90 but they wanted 6.95 postage
  8. If I remember correctly there are two types, if it has a cone thingy sticking out the end then it's a regulating valve, if not its what Western said
  9. There should be one on the bulkhead low down below the master cylinder area, its got two pipes in the top and two out the bottom. Same cylinder as on the seventies/eighties classic Mini. It has a shuttle valve in it and if say front brakes develop a leak the valve will be pushed across and shut that circuit off (in theory)
  10. Could I ask someone if the rear door catch (the one on the post) is the same as the two front doors please? I have a rear one somewhere and wondered if it will fit the post on my drivers side as mine is broken Thank you
  11. I have often wondered about that, I find that it keeps the majority of the rain off the windscreen when raining hard as well. I have a wolf on the bonnet with a 235x80x16 tyre from a 110 and its quite big, I had to make a bracket and bolt it through the bonnet as the wheel centre doesn't even touch the sticky up bits on the bonnet to secure it. Cant see through my nearside mirror on the wing either so maybe have to put the swing away back on the rear to accommodate the spare. Love it on the bonnet though
  12. Bonnet being changed and new one will be soundproofed and blue inside and out , I assume that your engine bay is is clean with no oil leaks and a tidy factory finish I got this paint and it did my woodburner and the 3 foot of exposed chimney pipe, I had enough left to do manifold and still have enough to do it again as it isn't as good a finish as the woodburner because I didn't put as much on. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/160954120435?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 No oil leaks on engine or gearbox, no rusty bits either and no one can see it to complain
  13. Arrr I seeeeee one of those popular music songs. Shall I paint the axles blue while I'm going to paint them anyway? It's going to be a blue blue Christmas On the plus side , If anyone pinches it I'll be able to recognise all the parts
  14. An empty 'Pringles' tube is excellent for storing spaghetti
  15. Have I violated the Defender dress code ? Even the exhaust manifold is painted and clean
  16. Its BLUE I hate dirty engines and it looks a lot tidier under there all one colour and also easier to spot leaks though I dont have any at the moment
