  1. I'm not sure Perkins did make a 2.25? A quick google doesn't reveal anything. Landystand, are you certain it's a Perkins engine and not the Rover 2.25 Diesel? Whatever the case - the Rover 2.25 Diesel is an okay engine. Good ones (rare) will give you between 27 and 35 mpg which easily makes up for their poorer performance in comparison to the petrol that sees around 20 mpg. And RR diffs are quite steep for even the petrol engine. Best bet is to fit the standard diffs (as you intend to) and also fit an overdrive if it hasn't got one.
  2. So for those of us who can't actually access it as it takes too long to load (so browser gives in), what does it actually say? Is it just another one of these websites where people put in proposals (like that petition one) where nothing will ever come of it? Or is it a way of the Government informing the people about their plans?
  3. Not anymore! You'll be able to buy one next year.
  4. Because that's for urgent emergency calls?
  5. When was that? They quote me £8400 third party fire and theft. You were insured for courier weren't you?
  6. It works on car insurance, but it doesn't bring the 10k figure down to a sensible level.
  7. Okay I'll bear that in mind, because they told me on the phone that they don't do Courier hire and reward. And it was my local office.
  8. Thanks for the replies. For collection and delivery under the basis of hire and reward. Basically a driving job and because I can't drive anything but cars and vans up to 3.5 tons means I'm restricted to this if I wanted a driving job. Or so I think? I am 20 mind, and it's a few months away for my 21st but I thought I'd try something different to the usual lines of work for my age.
  9. £12,000 is what they want. NFU don't do courier.
  10. I've not had much success finding out the answer to this, which I fear may indicate that it's not what I want to hear. Is it possible to get commercial insurance (e.g. on a Van for courier/haul) under 21? Or must you be over 21? If it is possible, does anyone have any recommendations for under 21s with van insurance without insane rates that make it not worth it?
  11. Changing the dampers won't guarantee increased articulation. I think you may find the biggest problem is the leaf springs need lubrication, or if they are blowing apart from rust then complete dismantling and reassembly. But why would you want to increase the rigidity of the suspension? Surely that counteracts the desire for articulation? The two don't go together very well.
  12. The original type do the job well enough for a standard setup. What is it that you want them to do that the original type cannot?
  13. Just had a look. 5,000 miles or less is required from just reading into the first few lines on 4x4 policies.
  14. Chassis engine mount needs relocating. The injector pump will foul on the standard mounting location on a Series. This also applies to the 2.5 NA and TD engines. A Discovery 200TDi has its injector pump mounted further up, like the Sherpa 2.5 NA does so standard mounts can be used.
  15. I would expect at least a grand for one that barely has passed its MOT. £1,500 is a good figure for a road legal and working example, if not tidy. Be aware that there are now many Series 3s from the 70s and early 80s running about on late 2A identities.
  16. Of course I guess the risk of attaching it properly to the motor, is that they'll just take the whole vehicle instead.
  17. The speedo head will be calibrated for the standard series transmission and tyre sizes.
  18. 200TDi Discovery engine will fit 2.25 mounts, but the Defender unit won't. Neither will the 2.5 NA Diesel. A 2.5 NA from a Sherpa does, at the expense of waterproofed timing cover. My personal opinion on what you should think about is a 2.5 NA if you can't find a good 2.25 Diesel (rare now!).
  19. You could always fit leafs again.
  20. I like the opposite extremes of the two motors. One a little S1, the other is a 110 done up to be a monster truck.
  21. It looks very tidy in that photo.
  22. They're also the hardest to get hold of.
  23. About the rear high lights, it wasn't unusual for companies to add an additional set of lights there. Have a look at the GPO Land Rovers for instance, they had lighting up there as well. The rear windows could be after market ones, although I have seen similar looking windows listed in the optional parts book for export only.
