  1. The only one I now get on sub is http://www.overlandjournal.com/ although it is USA based and hence has Jeeps etc as well, they do have some good articles, the production quality is very good and it is refreshingly free from hundreds of pages of adverts. Neil
  2. A few of my favourite things: Del Amitri Smashing Pumpkins Mike Scott / Waterboys Carly Simon Pulp Geddy Lee (and/or Rush) Peter Gabriel
  3. "Home page -> Product Info -> Thermosystems" and the pdf files are there. I did not see the V when I had a look just now but the new ones are all very similar. As also mentioned you could try Webasto direct but last time I tried they would not sell direct and I had to go via a dealer, marine engineers are useful as the Webastos are used on lots of narrow boats etc. Neil
  4. I finally got around to wiring in a 3.5mm jack socket & switch to the CD changer under my seat. Cut a few wires etc and I can now plug in a DVD or MP3 source. Neil
  5. I think Britannia Rescue do not have a vehicle age limit for cover. I switched to them when the RAC wanted a ridiculous premium on taking a 9yr old Discovery to France last year. Neil
  6. I added a Webasto to my TDi Discovery, best mod I have made. Relatively easy to fit. I had a Kenlowe hotstart to fit but decided against it as I could only use it at home (or within reach of a 240V supply) so it would be no use when leaving work on a dark cold winter evening. Neil
  7. No, but thankfully he is regularly on Sky channels. I can see in years to come that Ray Mears would be a candidate for the "Great Britons" series. Neil
  8. Not sure what you have done as they should be 3 large files only, one per disc that are the CD disc images. Do you have the files rave01.iso, rave02.iso & rave03.iso ? It almost sounds like whatever you downloaded them with has auto mounted the iso images for you in the process. You could try again with rightclick->save target/file as and see if it leaves you only with the iso. What operating system are you using? Neil
  9. Those 3 large files should be iso images that you then burn to a CD or mount locally on a PC. The CD should then have a rave.exe which pops up a custom acrobat reader program that allows you to access the RAVE data in a semi-intelligent fashion. Neil
  10. Have a nose around http://techwebasto.com/thermosystems_main.htm Failing that then if you have a ThermoTop C then I probably still have some instructions somewhere for when I installed mine. Neil
  11. http://www.britanniarescue.com/ do not penalise you for an older car unlike the RAC etc Neil

  13. I was watching a program on UK History yesterday about WW2 tank restorers. They were sand blasting an old Sherman using a sand mixture supplied from metal casting factories. The sand had partly fused into glass and was then crushed. It worked a treat and brought the rust and old paint off in no time. Mind you the bloke using it was in a full protective body suit with respirator and helmet as it looked fierce stuff. Neil
  14. Konqueror on Linux does not like it either. Neil
  15. Mine is mounted on the drivers side. Neil
  16. However if you can run the fans then you get nicely defrosted windows before you get in. Neil
  17. The electrics library seems to imply that the fuel burning heater in the TD5 is controlled via an air temperature sensor which connects the alternator output to the heater at temperatures less than 5degC and if that is present the heater turns on. It sort of suggests that the heater can't be turned on as a pre-heater without accessing a connector to bypass the air sensor. You also need to be able to get at the fan control system to get those to turn on when the heater is up to strength. Neil
  18. Excellent ! they seem have just the type of boxes I am looking for to load up the Discovery with for next years treks. Thanks. Neil
  19. B)--> QUOTE(Michael B @ Dec 20 2006, 02:14 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Maybe someone out there can help with a little (but worrying) problem. The tachometer on my 89 won't read correctly. Sometimes it doesn't pick up, sometimes it fluctuates wildly but sometimes it works. I know a failing tach is a sign of a bad alternator but i've just had my alternator replaced. can anyone give me some advice? Thanks! If it is anything like the Discovery 300TDi alternator connectors, then there will be a single wire on a spade connector at the back of the alternator that often works loose. You can take it off, clean up the contacts & push it back on. Some people say to use a new connector but that depends on how worn it is and if just reseating works for you, a mild squeeze with pliers can also help the connector hold. Neil
  20. I bought my Webasto from Ebay Germany a couple of years ago, the prices then were cheaper for a new unit over a 2nd hand one in the UK. Breaker yards also have them. I have found Webasto strange to deal with direct, I think it depends on who you speak to, sometimes they give you loads of information & help, othertimes they just fob you off to a dealer. webasto tech site has a lot of useful info for wiring & spares lists etc. I use a local marine engineer to get parts for mine, I had to replace the burner last winter as it was coked up. Neil
  21. The Webasto I fitted to my 300TDi is easily the best modification I have made to date. Well worth having. Neil
  22. Just back from a 2 week trip to the Le Pas Opton campsite in the Vendee region. Very nice. Roads were excellent there & back. Diesel at a fraction over 1Euro per litre (including a filling station just outside Caen ferry port) made it even more enjoyable. Lack of traffic lights & a road system that seems to just work was good as well. I cancelled my RAC cover & took out the Brittania Deluxe package as that covered Europe & I was not being asked a ridiculous premium for the Discovery that RAC wanted. Took a few spares & tools but thankfully did not need them. Neil
  23. Hi, Discoparts do a stainless steel version of the origional Safari grill for £14 - hopefully my one should be delivered today so a photo may follow. Neil
