  1. I’ve taken holiday till end of week as my mother in law lives with us , and my firm isn’t closing at the minute, we make gates and fencing . I don’t class that as essential but we are a small firm and because the government hasn’t said that they have to them they aren’t at the minute
  2. Hi , can someone clarify the part number for the stub axle off a Salisbury axle please . The truck is a defender 200tdi 110 3500kg which has been converted from drums to discs using the diesel Jim method and I’m sure I used the original stubs , parts book says FRC8540 but there are a few on eBay listed as Salisbury stub axles with other part numbers FRC3132 and FTC1740 . cheers Ian
  3. Cheers both , I didn’t expect them not to be good with the company being Swedish really but thought I’d ask.
  4. Hi all , has anyone had any experience of Kilen springs ? I'm after some new front springs and these came up on ebay and I've never heard of them , https://www.kilensprings.com/ I've found some reviews online where people have fitted them to other makes of car and most are good , but one bloke with a mg fitted them and one broke after 18 months which isn't so good so thought I'd ask on here . cheers Ian
  5. I’m 51 and still feel young , I think it’s human nature we find something we enjoy then seem to take it to the extreme and forget everything else we enjoy, I think it’s good that things like this can be talked about on here without ridicule or idiots with smart comments, that’s why I like this forum it’s a community a group of people whom most have never met but all are in a way friends.
  6. I totally get how you feel , I've got a 110 which is my main motor and daily driver and a project 90 I seem to spend all my time in the workshop and none enjoying other hobbies I like . I’ve lost all enthusiasm for my 90 which is nearly done and have been thinking of selling it for the last few months . I’ve found that you channel efforts into the project , then small jobs pop up on your main truck and you put them off then things start to escalate, I’ve come to the conclusion that 1 Land Rover is enough unless you want to spend all your time on them and none doing everything else you enjoy . I also find that jobs are starting to take longer as the will isn't there to get on with them and I really can’t be arsed anymore, it’s nice to know it’s not just me that feels like this . Think it’s time to make my mind up whether to sell as is or bolt put the last few bits on and then get rid .
  7. Nice to know as I’m not far from you 👍.
  8. I'd also check the case itself Ralf . where the shaft goes through as the holes can elongate and give play in the shaft , Ashcrofts do a machined sleeve that fits in the case , just in case .
  9. There doing it a bit at a time over 12 months, I think , next month is the suspension.
  10. I can believe that , I’ve seen the way some of them drive them round our way especially round silage time .
  11. Watched it earlier when I came back from work , looks good are the firm they’ve chosen for the axles any good ? I am thinking yes as they make tractor axles as I’ve never heard of one of those break .
  12. +1 for lowering the axle , I’ve got some spring compressors and I’ve used them and I personally don’t like them . I’ve not had one break but I’ve had them slip and it hurt .
  13. Are these any good light wasn't very good tonight due to the weather , 1st measurement is from bulkhead to front of opening , second to back of hole . I can get some more if you need any .
  14. I’ll take some for you tomorrow when I come back from work , I know YRM do all the individual seat box parts and I think they’ve started doing the front panel with the flange on for the seat box which would save you some cash if I’m rite. How’s the swap coming along? I use my 110 200tdi as a daily driver and you’ve got me seriously considering swapping it to a m57 engine , I might have a few questions for you later on 😁.
  15. I think the hole will line up but the tunnels are different so you would need to change the seat box as well as there’s a bulge (for want of a better word ) on the drivers side, if you want I can take some pics for you tomorrow off my project as there’s no carpet fitted yet and could take some measurements for you as well .
  16. Cheers Ross , well errrrr it’s been that long since I started it that I forgot all about weighing it , but I can say that I can lift it comfortably on my own as I turned it and moved it out of the way many times by myself and it only took 2 of us to put it on and we did it easily. If I ever fetch it off I will way it .
  17. Yes there’s nothing quite like the smell of fresh sawn wood , workshop is looking good James .
  18. Well I have been doing bits on this on and off but its finally finished , yeaaaaaaaaaaaah one project down a few to go . Right so welded the rack together and legs then made some mounts for the front light bar , test fit , then wanted some slim line LED lights on the side so when camping you can have some light down each side and found these on eBay weren't very expensive at all . made up some backing plates and welded them on , and zinc rich primered it , then painted it black this is the best pic I've got . Then finally this weekend I've fitted it , I'm well pleased how it turned out and I've no doubt I'll upgrade the design along the way just need to wire the lights in and it's job done . cheers Ian
  19. Which is what I said above take the centre out of a Salisbury axle and fit a locker and you’ve lost all the strength, it becomes no stronger than a rover axle , so an upgraded short nose would be stronger
  20. From what I understand from Nige and other's LR did as usual make the Salisbury on the cheap , as it's a variant of the Dana 60 , and the strength lies in the huge cross pin in the diff so when you remove this and fit a locker you remove the strength ending up with an axle no stronger than anything else and also the parts are expensive to replace . So if you take a short nose diff rover axle fit a ATB or locker have it pegged couple in some Ashcroft shafts you end up with something stronger or as strong as a Salisbury , I'm no expert as I asked the question in the first place but this is what I understand the info to mean that I've been given but I may be wrong .
  21. Hi all thank you all very much for the help and guidance , had a good chat with Nige at the show today and he recommended as Ed said get rid of the Salisbury axle and fit a short nose td5 rear axle then have them rebuilt , he said I'd benefit more from ATB's rather than lockers and said they where very under rated . So the plan is ATB's and Ashcroft shaft's so if anyone knows of a 110 TD5 short nose axle for sale I'm interested and I should then have a rear Salisbury axle with disc conversion for sale , but I will put a wanted add in the wanted section shortly .
  22. So a 110 puma axle would do , and leave the front as is and have it rebuilt?
  23. Cheers all , most people seem to put there faith in air lockers so need to do some thinking and I’m presuming that if I go down the air locker route then a P38 rear axle needs to be sourced , or would you change both to P38 axles ? Then I would imagine that the props would need to be changed , for which ones ? which isn’t a problem as I was already planning on a couple of Gwyn Lewis ones anyway . I would imagine this route would be easier as I can source rebuild the axles at my own pace . Cheers Stephen I’ll have a think about it , I have got a crane pad but it’s a bit big I’ll put a pic up . Does anyone know to any axles for sale ? 😁
  24. I had considered air and compressors as I was planning to fit one in the rear , because if I get a flat while fishing in the middle of nowhere I can pump it up and get to flat ground to change it , and yes I know I could buy a foot pump but I getting old and lazy and if there’s one thing I’ve learned it’s if you can make life easy bloody do it 😁. There’s something else I’ve been looking for that someone might be able to help is a jacking pad , to put under the wheel jack on soft ground, like what they use under the hydraulic legs on cranes .
