  1. Hi all, I've got a 200tdi , is it normal to find oil in the pipe that goes from the turbo to the intercooler ? There's wasn't loads but it was quite wet have I stumbled on the start of a problem ? cheers Ian
  2. Cheers western meant the brushes ordered some of ebay seemed I had a good deal oem £11 on britcar £25 plus vat . cheers Ian
  3. Hi all, does anyone know the pert number for the bushes in the wiper motor please and the best place to get them ? It's a 200 tdi with intermitant wipers. cheers Ian
  4. Yes I've read a few posts were people say they're not needed and the standard pin is fine if you adjust the pump properly . I've found a few guides on adjusting the fuel pump saying adjust everything gradually but you need to adjust each bit off the pump to get the best out of the tweaking . Got a few things to sort first air filter , exhaust and I think my turbo is leaking oil . It's not pouring out but there's oil under it on the drain pipe , there's a patch on the floor when parked up on that side of the engine but it only leaks after I've been on a run , moved it to other side of the yard yesterday it stood for 5 hours no leak had her in the garage last week for 4 days sorting an alarm issue no leak. It's stood for 2 1/2 years so think a seal might of gone and there is slight movement in the shaft of 2/3mm don't know if that's ok . Not sure what to do , send it off and get it rebuilt or buy a chra and fit it myself the later is the cheaper options I'd imagine don't know how easy that is. cheers Ian
  5. Thought I might be after rebuilding her every little noise has got me thinking what's that ? Got to stop it. cheers Ian
  6. Yes at the end of the day it all comes down to cost I know turners work is spot on but I would have had a go myself at that price, will have to see what chase come back with . Td5 nar I like the 200 tdi think when I get it tuned rite it will be sound will put some photos up over the next couple of days now she's nearly done. Changing the subject slightly but still on about engines , does this sound like a problem or is it just how a 200 tdi is and I'm being paranoid because I've just rebuilt her . She starts up from cold first turn of the key no hesitation what so ever small puff of grey/white smoke from exhaust then none , she's idling on about 800/900rpm and she runs fine but there's a slight vibration. The engine looks still but put your hand on it and you can feel it it's only noticeable because things not fastened solid vibrate like the rear view mirror accelerate and it stops . I drove my father in laws td5 for months and that didn't do it , I'm only asking because I would rather fix it now than let it become a bigger problem and as I say I might just be being paranoid. cheers Ian
  7. Have just heard back from them they do it, that's who I was waiting for a reply off. Have just asked for a rough price for the work . The guy who replyed mentioned about a fuel pin as well but said his mate new all about that but was on hols . So would imagine they've done quite a few defenders before .
  8. I found this reb78 if you fancy having a go yourself https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/how-to-port-and-polish-your-car-s-cylinder-heads-by-blake-griffin cheers Ian
  9. Cheers Chicken Drumstick I get what your saying cost wise the turner engineering heads are pricey and if I needed a new head they'd be the way to go . The spare head I've got cost £68 off eBay it had 2 injectors stuck and 2 glow plugs stuck I got 1 injector and the glow plugs out but the other one is stuck solid and have left that for a specialist to remove so the spare needs work before it can ever be used . There are no signs of cracks but it needs pressure testing and skimming and the valves re seating and a damn good clean the ports are thick with carbon . So I might give the porting a go myself unless I can find somewhere to do it for around the same price as honitonhobbit got his done for which I think is reasonable . cheers Ian
  10. Have contacted a place I've used before they do everything but porting and I'm waiting for a reply from another, have asked a mechanic and he doesn't know anywhere. I'm from walsall originally so think I'll have to go and see some friends over there see if they know anyone. Was trying to find someone round Stafford because in easier . Will have to do some more searching on the internet. cheers Ian
  11. No not yet my thinking was as everything is new except the wiper motor it was most likely that as it's not been used for 2 1/2 years and when I brought it I basically drove it home parked it in the shed then stripped it to rebuild it so I can't really say it worked right in the first place. cheers Ian
  12. Is it worth having the bronze valve guides fitted and the 3 angle valve seats and valves cut or is that more for sports cars ? cheers Ian
  13. That's my thinking reb78 have found hamlyns been on there website might contact them see what the price is but would have to post it to them. Have done a few searches this morning and found articles on doing it and how to make a flow bench but why knacker up a perfectly good head. If I remember correctly it has cackshifter it's like part of a disc where the air comes in. I think we all agree a defender is never going to be a sports car if you want to go fast buy a performance car , I think most people are after making it more drivable and at home on modern roads after all I would imagine that helping your old 200tdi to breathe a bit easier can only be good for the engine . I think most of us could do with a bit of oxygen from time to time as we get on . Cheers Ian
  14. Hi all , front wipers are playing up on my rebuild it's a 200tdi 110 with intermitant wash wipe . The wiring loom is new it's got new oem wheel boxes stalk is new ,new Bosch relay and a new park switch on the motor , 2nd speed (fast wipe) doesn't work at all they don't park in the same place all the time and the intermitant wipe has 10 sec gap between wipes then it wipes constant. Any ideas ? Only part I haven't replaced is the wiper motor could the bushes need replacing or do I need a new motor if so does anyone have a part number please ? Or could something else be knackered ? Could someone before me have fitted a motor that didn't have intermitant wipers ? Any help much appreciated . cheers Ian
  15. Yes pump and injectors were overhauled when engine rebuilt I do think turners price for the work is a bit on the high side that's why I'm looking for someone local, the engine runs sweet am pleased with myself as it's the 1st engine I've ever rebuilt . Have fitted a full width intercooler , haven't tweeted the pump or turbo yet as I wanted to do a few miles to run things in, the turbo is only running on 0.75 bar so that needs upping but she goes really well , I'm after the same outcome as honitonhobbit it's a daily driver and I've started going fishing again so it will be in for a lot of miles getting about. Does anyone have a link to some where that shows some one doing the work themselves ?
  16. Cheers all mixed replies there , did read turners website and to be fair they do say it depends on the condition of your engine and ancillaries it says they've put them in some rally cars so would imagine the figures might have come from there. Did watch wheeler dealers last night they did it on a merc head then the bloke who did it bench tested it by pushing compressed air through it, he'd also tested it before the work and the flow had improved by about 15% was impressed . Sounds like it worked for you honitonhobbit is it just the head you do or do you do the manifolds as well ? Been trying to find someone local to me in Stafford who does it for a price . Think I might give it ago the engines just been rebuilt . cheers Ian
  17. We've got a place up in stoke that does this sort of work , so is it best letting people who know what there doing do it so you still have a spare head rather than doing a bodge job yourself ? cheers Ian
  18. Cheers Snagger saw those on Turner engineering and read a post on here were the honitonhobbit mentioned about doing it . So thought I'd ask if it's worth doing and what's involved like reb78 I've got a spare head . Cheers Ian
  19. Hi all, have nearly finished my rebuild 200tdi 110 is on the road so just running it in and sorting the niggles , so have turned my attention to gaining a bit more power from the old girl. I've fitted a bigger intercooler and when I've done a few miles will be adjusting the fuel pump and upping the boost , but I read in another post about performance cylinder head and wondered what it entailed ? What sort of power gains you get from it ? And is it worth doing ? cheers Ian
  20. Hi , I think it's as your 2nd picture top right thick white bottom right thick brown bottom left white red top right white orange cheers Ian
  21. I brought mine from famous four I think that was a britpart kit but all Oem parts. Wanted chrome swivels but was told you can't get them any more, all went together ok can't say what they're like as it was for a rebuild and it's not mot'd yet. cheers Ian
  22. Cheers western all sorted put relay in out of 90 and all as works as should will order a new one just to be sure. Just need to sort the interior lights know got power at fuse ( 1st fuse top left hand corner) but no power at the purple wire under the dash that went to the original switch which I've taken out and the td5 clock doesn't work either, think they might have been linked into another wire and when I did the instrument upgrade I've cut it to use the wires. cheers Ian
  23. Cheers western did wonder if the glow plug was the culprit , but wasn't share what the light did when it was knackered will try the one out of my next project a 300tdi that ones ok . cheers Ian
  24. Hi all, have done the td5 instrument and warning panel upgrade in my 200 tdi project but got a couple of warning lights that stop on ones the brake level warning light but after a search have found that might be the float stuck in the reservoir cap as it has stood for 2 years with no fluid in it, but the other is the glow plug light it comes on at start up and stays on if I tap the screen it goes out then comes back on again, electrics are new to me and I'm learning slowly any help to point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated as I've booked her in for mot on Tuesday after 2 years rebuilding her. cheers Ian
