  1. I’ve also been looking at some form of night heater for when I go camping in the 110. Where is the normal place to install one of these units? Inside or outside and where in particular to minimise loss of internal space? I’d like to fit a bed in the back of mine so the location of warm air outlet(s) will be important and I’ve removed my seat bulkhead. Can the space under the centre seat be used? How does the fuel supply tap into the tank on a TD5? Do you need to fit a new fuel pickup into the tank or can you tap into a non-pressurised line at the fuel pump? Any photos of what others have done would be great.
  2. Cheers, it’s good to know that the gearchange will improve over time. Only done a few hundred miles at the moment so will keep an eye on it. The supplier recommended to use ATF in the box so hopefully that is all good. 👍
  3. I’ve just had a rebuilt R380 gearbox fitted to my 110 after a 5th bearing failure on the previous box. I’m finding with this new box that the gear change is very stiff and getting it in and out of the gates is quite difficult at times. I have the same synchro gears quick shift fitted as was in the original box and up until the point of failure the gearchange was quite slick on that so I’m at a loss as to what’s causing this. Clutch is new as is flywheel etc so I’m wondering if there is an adjustment of some description that can be made to improve the shift? 5th to 4th is particularly tight coming down the box.
  4. Goodwinch have some decent second hand parts so I’ll send it off to them for a service and rebuild whilst I get the bumper blasted and powder coated.
  5. The parts are still available from Goodwinch so I’ll just replace them.
  6. I have a Superwinch with a cast alloy housing which has cracked in the usual place where the retaining bars are fitted. Does anyone know a way to repair these? Can they be repelled and then drilled out? Failing that are those bars really needed if I’m running a dyneema rope through a fair lead and could I just remove the bars and tidy up the broken corners with a grinder?
  7. I’ve just read that on their website and by the sounds of it a new box with an uprated 5th gear bearing is on the cards 😞
  8. Driving home tonight on the motorway in my 2004 110 and heard what I can only describe as a ‘camshaft clatter’ sound coming from the gearbox. I was in 5th gear and the more I pressed the accelerator the louder it got. Depressed the clutch and it disappeared. Changed down into 4th and it disappeared too. Put it back into 5th and the noise returned and was quite loud over the noise of the engine and road noise. Left it in 4th for the remainder of my trip but noticed later as I went up and down through the gears what sounds like bearing noises similar to a drone/whine in all 4. I’m assuming something has gone in the box and that it will need to come out to be stripped and checked but just wanted to see if anyone has any other thoughts on a possible cause? Gear change itself was fine and it drove as normal except for the noise. New clutch and flywheel recently fitted so am assuming they are all good.
  9. Cold start injector staying open? Is it running rich when warmed up? Coolant temperature sensor fault?
  10. I’m unfamiliar with the speedunio thingy but I have an Emerald K6 in my Cosworth Capri and Emerald say it will quite happily run a 2.25 petrol engine with that single point throttle body and a coil pack. Definitely on the list of things to do when the restoration starts.
  11. Get an MOT, it records the engine number and CC if I recall correctly.
  12. Once you’ve checked and sorted out your heater you could consider fitting a heated screen. If you put it on straight away it won’t get a chance to mist up and any that does will soon clear quickly.
  13. The Jenveys would make it cost prohibitive but with that single point throttle body it certainly becomes doable and probably something I will dig into a bit deeper as I’ve never heard of that speedunio gizmo before and presumably it’s just a mappable ECU?
  14. ACR do a distributor less ignition system and heads, cams, exhausts etc are already available off the shelf so if that universal throttle body would do the fuel job then it just needs that speedunio gizmo to control the fuel and ignition doesn’t it? It seems then that all the bits are there to do the job.
  15. Depends on how much mileage you do. If it’s not much then could the series be your daily?
  16. ACR are only down the road from me and I have seen some of the stuff they do although all their engines seem to stick with carbs. I have a mappable ECU on my Capri and have seen it done to many engines, just not to a Series one which got me thinking...
  17. Anyone ever fitted fuel injection throttle bodies like these to a 2.25 petrol engine? https://store.jenvey.co.uk/throttle-bodies-and-components/throttle-bodies/heritage-dcoe/heritage-twin-tbody-40-48mm-pair-tdp40-48 Out of curiosity I was wondering what power gains could be got from this engine with porting the head, increasing compression and converting to mappable fuel and ignition systems. Maybe a different cam for good measure....
  18. Not sure about the 109 but it looks a decent piece of kit. Can’t see any prices quoted though.
  19. Quick update. Car went back into the garage to get the new injector seals checked and one was showing signs of blow by. All were replaced and the issue has been resolved. Normal starting has resumed.
  20. Spoke to All Wheel Trim. Apparently I would need to fit some sort of additional bulkhead behind the existing one and move the spare wheel to get their canvas top to fit. Never mind, worth a shot.
  21. I was thinking of getting this done to mine. What’s your thoughts on the quality of the work? Looking at the photos I’m a bit undecided.
  22. Thanks for the replies. Yes the filter has been checked along with every connection that was disturbed when fitting the new pump and filter head. The tank is about 3/4 full and so the pump is well submerged and it doesn’t seem to make any difference what angle the car is parked at. Once it’s running it pulls as well as it always did. I’ll get those seals checked again and at least eliminate those from the list of possible causes.
