  1. Wow @dangerous doug that's excellent info Thank you Regards Stephen
  2. Thanks, I probably had less teething issues than I thought I was going to have A 1.1 box/ gears will be a sensible 1st move I think Just had a look at some high steering set up's, should be pretty easy to configure and fab up Way too generous on the short block etc, the flanges did not consume that much time, but very nice of you indeed. Going to explore the 200tdi tuning for now because it's convenient and I need to catch up on some neglected diy jobs Regards Stephen
  3. I'll pass on that for now as I have a good 4 bolt to put on, but thank you all the same Are they stronger, there seems to be different views on this Regards Stephen
  4. Well remembered Forgot about that, not checked properly as yet, just washed most of the Welsh mud off it in my neighbours field Regards Stephen
  5. So for those that are interested here is a bit of a shakedown review from Sid's first outing The good My welded diffs held together, had discussed this with @Bowie69 the welded diffs because they were cast iron welded were my major concern, however they stood up to the abuse they were given Ground clearance Crawl speed Suspension and articulation Ride was never bouncy Steering rod clearances @CwazyWabbit will know what I mean Most of my fabrication work held together Front single link set up worked well, I think spending decent money on shock absorbers helped to keep side roll good Seats were great The bad 2" plus springs were terrible tyres High box Not doing the important things like temp gauge and oil pressure light Spare wheel carrier was a wobbly joke On the fabrication side, my air lockers were intermittent, don't know if they had just been left too long and the inside surfaces lost some of the oil coating My forged steering arm looks to have bent slightly, not through being hit just not up to the strain will need to brace or fab a new one up On the whole I am very pleased, like @Daan stated the car just needs dialing in a bit, any thoughts are always appreciated good or bad Regards Stephen
  6. Was this what you had in mind @Ed Poore.......... Regards Stephen
  7. @FridgeFreezer and @Bowie69, very generous on the springs, if you could hold on until I can get a weight would be great or if you need them gone because they are taking up room let me know Thanks very much regards Stephen
  8. Just reading back through the thread part of the problem I think is my standard engine does not have enough oomph to pull Sid up hills in low 4th or 5th Regards Stephen
  9. Wow, Sid seems to have caused quite a stir..........lol My first port of call would be getting him back, was supposed to be delivered yesterday at 14:50, not here yet and no phone call, recovery service providers will be a new topic for me shortly. Secondly thank you all so much for the discussion that's going on to make him better offroad, so to add to that here are my thoughts bearing in mind I do not have the technical knowledge you guys have, although it is improving all the time by being a member of this forum and it's conversations Tyres, I thinks softer tyres would make a bit difference, I don't know how old they are but they did not look like they were wrapping themselves around obstacles Ground clearance, pretty happy with that .......lol Gearing, pretty happy with the low range gearing, I could live with it. High range is hideous, when we were heading back to base I had to go into high box to keep up and the guys were not going fast, if I could achieve a 60mph road speed I would be delighted, I'm not planning long distance hauls by road Engine, the 200 tdi was ok on the slow speed technical stuff, also this is a bog standard untuned unit, however as has been stated I cannot spin the wheels fast enough to clear the treads and a little bit more take off speed would be good Other things to consider, my lockers were not functioning correctly, if they had worked 100% I would have had less issues I think ( oil warning and temp indication would also help ) As is Sid is useable and I had fantastic fun in him with you guys, my biggest priority will be to raise the funds for a decent trailer because without that there is no Sid going to events like Summer Sisters So my list of priorities, these are subject to change with discussion from your good selves Trailer 1:003 gearbox or the .9 unit if Ed is lucky enough to track it down ( I appreciate your efforts Ed but don't waste your valuable time, if it turns up great if not there are other options ) Tyres Suspension up travel Engine, ultimately I'm pretty sure I will go back to V8, should never have moved away from it, but in the mean time I will, with advice from this forum start trying to get the best out of the engine I have As with everything stuff happens when funds are available so don't expect overnight fixes, would be nice if we could do stuff as we need but hey ho. Looks like this thread is going to continue for a wee while yet........lol Regards Stephen
  10. I would think it might be ok, plenty people towing double horse boxes with them up here Regards Stephen
  11. Good God I will not tell him that .........yet...... I really cannot be bothered to drive back down tonight..................... Regards Stephen
  12. To be fair it wasn't about the speed, he really liked how compact the car is and how stable it felt, I get his point it did feel good Regards Stephen

  15. One thing I will add about our very own Ed Poore, he is a seriously talented driver, pretty sure he could do Swan Lake ballet in his 110 and still look graceful Regards Stephen
