  1. Thanks, boost controller thing was highlighted by a forum member so I just went with it, haven't done anything lli!e this before so it's all learning Regards Stephen
  2. @NRS91 on the spacer kit you sent, do you still keep the original shims along with the one in your kit Tia regards Stephen
  3. Power steering pump changed today, an easy job I hear you say......... When I changed to power steering donkeys ago and not being as astute as I am now I came across some problems which I rectified at the time by trimming some metal off the end of the steering box where the big circular clip resides. So I decided to rectify that today, which I did, newish box changed with no metal removed, happy days In order to do this I removed front panel, intercooler and radiator, champion, easy access to alternator belts, some bolt changing and both belts now tensioned great So I had a brain wave that came about after 3 12hr nightshifts averaging 3hrs sleep per day, you can see where this is going......... ureaka!!! moment, I'll start the car and bleed the box whilst it's so easy to get at. Started 1st click since summer sisters, got to love a tdi eh, wandered around to the front to be faced with two guysers of black lifeblood coming out of the oil cooler pipes that were obviously not connected, RAN back to ignition and switched off, engine covered and a quickly spreading pool of black blood under the car......... Hopefully slick is now under control and engine will drop excess oil down onto towelling before I get the pressure washer out. The morel of the story is, don't do s**t on no sleep...... Regards Stephen
  4. Small gains Substituted winch bumper spacer for an aluminium one, aluminium spacer is 0.54kg steel spacer is 1.83kg, so a saving of 1.3kg, small steps lol..... regards Stephen
  5. Some help to wake Sid up bits in post this morning..... Don't be surprised if there are some fitting related questions coming up shortly... Regards Stephen
  6. As the stuckbitch on duty at Seven Sisters I can confirm first hand that the winch in question did a great job, still pulling nice with the rope well wound in, have to say it seemed better than my Warn 9000 on the back of Sid, looking to change that winch with the 13500lb Rhino winch I've just got hold of Regards Stephen
  7. Have had a wee look @Ed Poore there seems more available on these shores than 20" ones regards Stephen
  8. Cheers, have already seen them, but I want something I can butcher at the moment to see how far I can push things with regard to fitment Regards Stephen
  9. Left them as original, I havnt changed axle tubes, and assumed the portal boxes vented into main axle case as no external vent that I could see Regards Stephen
  10. Not had much time for sid of late although today I dug out a 17" car tyre and tried it for size It's very tight I think but not impossible, will need to track down a 17" x 9" steel rim of any description, weld a landrover centre in and try in earnest to see if I can get a 17" rim to fit without increasing Sid's width Brake caliper clearance the most difficult part Also need to change Brake pipes for angled ones, although I could mock up with hard lines initially thoughts !!! regards Stephen
  11. I have a thread file, very useful, it's square with different thread pitches on each face, cannot lay my hands on it at the moment for a picture. However, I also have this which is excellent for restoring threads, it covers multiple 60 degree metric pitches and diameters within its range. It's called a Nes1A and restores threads between 4 and 18mm, you can also get them at 55 degrees to cover imperial threads regards Stephen
  12. Got a 13500lb Rhino winch with the trailer I've just bought, brand new still in the box, wire rope and remote control Are these winches any good, was thinking of fitting it onto the back of Sid instead of the ancient warn m8000 that's used as the rear winch Regards Stephen
  13. Ha that advice came a tad too late, bought an @ped version, should be OK though Regards Stephen
  14. Humour me ! Trying to roughly guesstimate Sid's weight as going to look at a trailer tomorrow Axles, tyres and suspension 730kg Engine and box 250kg Chassis, bumper and winch mounts 200kg Winches 90kg Bonnet and wings 30kg Bulkhead, vent panel and steering 40kg Rear tub 80kg Fuel tank 50kg Canvass 20kg Roll cage 70kg Seatbox and seats 35kg Doors 20kg Front panel, radiator and intercooler 20kg Windscreen and glass 20kg Assorted gear 50 kg Spare wheel 57 kg Odds and sods I've missed 30kg Makes a grand total of around 1800kg Somewhere near possibly Regards Stephen
  15. Bought, should be on there way to me as I type Regards Stephen
  16. I'm with Mike, a series portal all the way, definitely not boring, and end up with a nice truck Regards Stephen
  17. I made my own spring seats out of 3" box as I needed the height for the same reasons you do Regards Stephen Edit : page 4
  18. Thank you very much for the quick reply I have to say I tend to agree with you, I think I have been a bit excited and over thinking things Thanks for your honesty regards Stephen
  19. What exactly is the issue here ?? From what little I know of the mentioned gentleman, the feeling I get is that he was glacial, I've never been accused of slow on here.. I am quite happy to terminate the thread if you think that's the right thing to do..... Regards Stephen
  20. Only the front one landrover, rear is unimog Regards Stephen
  21. Not worried, just thinking about the ongoing evolution of Sid You wouldn't want me to get bored.......would you ?? Regards Stephen
  22. What spec aluminium @dangerous doug to be honest I'm not overly bothered at the moment and certainly not in a rush, unless weigh bridge tells a different story. I would guess ultra 4 axles are a damn sight lighter than my mogs though. Lol I possibly may have the only all aluminium bodied lightweight, well until you start yours that is ... Regards Stephen
  23. Just to add to this, an unmodified unimog rim weighs 25.5kg ( just weighed one ) add another 2kg when made up to Sid spec...... Regards Stephen
  24. Just having a wee think about some weight saving, my fuel tank is made from 3mm stainless, I could make an aluminium tank, with the base being 5mm aluminium, this should save me a fair bit of weight Regards Stephen
