where i used to work we ran a tuscan race car that had external oil pump for the dry sump and any time it went near a gravel trap it used to trash the toothed drive belt
while they work very well they do need protecting well

this looks a tidy one http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/200948347208147/sort/priceasc/usedcars/make/land_rover/model/defender/price-to/5000/price-from/3000/page/2/postcode/nn119bn/radius/1500?previous=%2Fsearch%2Fresults%2Fusedcars%2Fpostcode%2Fnn119bn%2Fradius%2F1500%2Fmake%2Fland_rover%2Fmodel%2Fdefender%2Fprice-to%2F5000%2Fprice-from%2F3000%2Fpage%2F2%2Fsort%2Fpriceasc&anchor=advert200948347208147&logcode=p
im not endorsing it as i dont know it!!
and my mate has just picked up a 92 j reg 90 soft top rebuilt on new galv chassis 200 tdi new exmore trim etc looks to be very sound for 4k

hi all
my mate has just got himself a 92 defender 90 and he is after some nice seats for it
im sure i have seen them fitted with rover coupe/mgf?? seats in them
any one have any pics of such a mod and how easy was it to fit them
also he would like to have heated seats so maybe some volvo or saab seats would be another option??
main stipulation is they must be black tilting operation isnt important as its a soft top so no reat seats anyway
rob
thanks all for your views
re boost pressure i have a gauge fitted and shows 1 bar boost from 1750 rpm (this is however measured off the fuel pump pipe from turbo)
performance wise its quick for a tdi disco (2 of my mates also have 300 tdi,s and they both feel slow in comparison)
i think im just going to have to live with dropping to 50mph on long motor way inclines then
lol
that said i wont be sad to keep the old girl
rob
see thats my concern is loss of economy
it does between 24 and 28 mpg towing as is
if its going to drop to say 20 to 24 ill get a v8 as ill at least have the extra power then
rob
if its slipping no amount of oil change will help im afraid
in not sure of what adjusment a d2 clutch has but at that milage i wouldnt be surprised if it needs a clucth (also the flywheels have been known to break up)
rob
hi all
i have posted on the disco forum with regards to converting my 98 disco 1 to auto for more relaxed towing but want to know is the auto a better gearbox for towing?
i plan on doing lots of towing next year with a 1900kg caravan on and a loaded car so will be running heavy a lot
will the auto cope ok?
will i loose my currently good mpg with the auto?
what extra cooling should i consider for the auto as i dont think the bog brush cooler on my old rrc was that effective (large mocal type cooler perhaps?)
will i loose much power (i barely have enough as is and the engine is all ready modded i drove a 98 factory auto years ago with edc on and it was sloooooow on its own lol)
thanks in advance
rob
way to much and the rust will come back soon
just seen this 98 300tdi for sale for only a little more http://forum.landrovernet.com/showthread.php?t=179819
ps i dont know the car and i aint vouching for it but seems a good buy
rob
hi all
i have been considering changing my disco to another car to gain auto trans (a bit more power would be nice for towing too) but looking around at what i will get for my disco its going to cost loads to change up
soooooo i was thinking whats involved in changing it to auto?
what will i need to do the job?
rough idea on prices too
thanks rob
its a 98 300 tdi
or am i better off just sticking with manual and lumping it??????? ie is the auto box strong enough for lots of towing?
i had a set of 33,s on my shogun and they were very good (used mostly on road with some light laning)
have heard that they work better backwards and that the sidewalls can be a bit soft too
was a thread about these not so long ago so a quick search will pick it up
would also consider the hankook rt03 mt,s too
rob
on my 300 tdi i fitted a darton breather and routed the vent pipe into a seperate catch tank made from a old rrc pas resovoir to eliminate the oil going into my air intake (struck me as a daft idea anyway lol)
rob
o yes
and then only puts 2 drains at the front of said sunroof so if your drive slopes down at the back it cant drain away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i think the whole axle would work better than a half shaft
yeah see my sig the car has had plenty done
turbo pressure is still set as stock tho dont want to mess with that with the amount of towing i will be doing next year
dont like the td5 to be fair too much electrics to mess me up in the middle of no where for my liking (plus changing the car for a extra 25 bhp sounds wastefull unless im gaining lots of torque into the bargain)
