  1. Have signed it and so has SWMBO. Pete
  2. Evening all, I have a 300TDI Auto which has developed a non-starting issue. Basically what happens is if a I do a longish motorway run (1hr+) or work it quite hard say driving around the roads in the peak district and then park up for a break or at journeys end switch off the engine and then within 15mins have to re-start the engine it wont crank. If I then wait another 10 mins or so it will start fine. Initially I thought it might be the infamous immobiliser issue's that disco's are known for how ever at the weekend I managed to locate the alarm/immobiliser unit (it's an EDC vehicle so it's not behind the centre of the dash) and took it apart, checked the soldering which all seems good. I am now leaning towards it being the start inhibit switch on the gearbox. I have already removed it cleaned and reinstalled it but the problem persists. I think that something is getting too warm and was wondering wether anyone else has experienced something similar to this or can think of another possible cause. Thanks in advance. Pete. P.S can anyone tell me the part number for the inhibit switch? Pete.
  3. Right then here are some pics of my engine minus the EGR and the bits I took off. EGR valve removed from exhaust manifold. Top intercooler hose (cheap silicone ones from fleabay) EGR solenoid with pipe work removed but still connected electrically positioned on nearside inner wing by the air intake part of which is removed to take the photo. The bits that were removed. HTH Pete. editted to add the following. just remembered that i blanked off the vacuum feed to the solenoid at the tee on the bulkhead (sorry no picture of that).
  4. Another vote for BT here, wouldn't recommend tiscali to my worst enemy. went with BT as the customer services are UK based and seem to be efficient. Pete.
  5. On mine I have completely removed the egr valve from the exhaust manifold and replaced the intercooler to inlet manifold pipe with a silicone hose (although i believe it is possible to get a normal rubber hose also). I found that I had to leave the solenoid that operates the EGR electrically connected but I have removed all the vacuum pipes from it. I will try and take some pics tonight and post them up showing what I have done. doing either method I described previously should work I was just curious as to which way it was done and was then going to suggest trying the other method. HTH Pete.
  6. toger, Mine is also an EDC 300TDI although a bit older and I have no problem with mine. how did he blank the egr off did he take it completely off and then replace the top intercooler to inlet rubber hose with one with no egr pipe on it, or did he insert the plate between the egr and the exhaust manifold? Pete.
  7. Mine will cruise at 70 with no problem at all. Pete.
  8. My 300Tdi auto discovery is great, it is a little sluggish of the mark some times but not annoyingly (sp) so (not helped by 31" tyres I suspect) . I get around 27-30 mpg depending on what I type of journey I do. I have to say it is the best vehicle I have owned for doing long (300+ mile) journeys as it is very relaxing to drive. HTH Pete.
  9. I got mine from the second people that Western has linked to, they were very easy to deal with and the parts are well made. HTH Pete.
  10. Freeagent, Hard to say, seems a bit freer reving but as it's an auto it's difficult to tell. biggest thing I have noticed is a slighty decrease in fuel consumption , so I guess I'm not having to work it as hard to get the same 'performance'. HTH Pete.
  11. My 120,000 mile 300Tdi was worse than that, before I cleaned it all out and fitted a blanking plate. IIRC the inlet manifold had a layer of black gunge about 8mm thick all over the inside of it. I also found that the inlet port diameter was considerably reduced due to a build up of muck in them. Took a couple of hours to remove, clean and then refit everything. I replaced my intercooler pipes with silicone ones which removed the pipe from the EGR to inlet manifold. As said above purchased plate off eblag for a couple of quid. Pete.
  12. Was looking through the september LRO and spotted a small article about this online petition. 4x4 petition this is a pro 4x4 site, by the way. Pete.
  13. ROFL Some people have far to much spare time. Pete
  14. Fortunately I managed to get enough of the bits I needed to at least put the thing back together so she can use it. Just means that I'll end up using another weekend up changing the other bits when I get them. Have to agree with Les, usually I try to get all the bits well in advance as I don't usually find time to do stuff in the week due to working all over the country. Pete.
  15. Appologies but needed to rant slightly after a frustrating morning trying to fix her Peugeot. Right the car is a 1.6ltr petrol automatic 306 5 door hatchback of 2001 vintage, All I wanted to do was change the front discs and pads, a front suspension joint and 2 parts of the exhaust, shouldn't be to tricky I thought. Anyway went to my local motorfactors armed with all the details of the car including the VIN number and ask for the items listed above. The bloke behind the counter looks up all the part numbers and gets the bits listed for a 1.6 petrol 306 auto, had to order the exhaust but it will be in by 10-30ish. I take the bits home and take the car apart, and this is where it all went wrong. The discs and pads are both wrong, then went to fit the suspension joint thats wrong too. So by now it is about 11-00 so go back to the motor factors armed with the removed bits this time. The exhaust has arrived and you guessed it one part of that was wrong too. Bloke behind counter is the same guy as before, very appologetic and then digs out the parts catalogue and we both go through it. We eventually find all the correct bits:- The discs and pads are only fitted a 2.0ltr model apparently. The suspension joint is only used on a 1.9 diesel model, and the centre section of the exhaust is only used on a 1.6 cabriolet . . We even looked the car up on the database system that the motorfactors use (identifies the car through its reg) and that listed all the parts as being different to what is fitted. Now we are only the second owners of the car and the previous owners were not the sort to "modify" the car and until we got it, it had always been dealer maintained. Is this just a friday afternoon bitsa car or just (as i suspect) bloody minded french car manufacturers being a pain in the arse. Rant over. Has anyone else experienced this sort of problems getting parts for everyday euroboxes or am I just unlucky? Pete.
  16. Cheers Jules, I think that I'll get one and give it a go. Les & LR90, I tryed to source one like that after seeing it recomended in another thred on here but could not find one anywhere. Thanks to all Pete.
  17. Looks ok but I think you need a bigger motor! Pete
  18. Cheers folks, I only need it for light duties so am reluctant to spend lots, Vehicle Wiring products do this one:- vwp item 5510 near the bottom of the page. not sure if it's anygood tho! Pete
  19. Again dependant on price I would be up for one. Pete
  20. Evening All, I want to buy a brake pipe flaring tool, I am prepared to spend around £50. So please could someone recommend a good flaring tool and where to get it from. Cheers Pete.
  21. Ta, Would be handy if you did! I'm sure we can sort something out with the postage if you do have some. Pete.
  22. Mine definately has a single line set up although all the brakets for dual line are there. What I was intending to do was use the existing single line down to the caliper and then split in rigid copper to both halves. Pete.
  23. Thanks, will keep an eye on those i think. Pete.
  24. Hi All, I am thinking of upgrading the front brakes on my 1996 300TDi disco from the existing non-vented type to vented ones and as such will need to change the calipers, so as per the title what models or model years were fitted with vented discs as standard so that i can source some second hand calipers. Cheers, Pete.
