  1. Tim, Looks great! Good luck in Maroc. Are you're going to wear goggles all the way? Stefan
  2. Most Rally cars now use Makrolon: http://plastics.bayer.com/plastics/emea/en...e.jsp?lineId=53 I used it in 4mm as replacement screen on my 90ty ages ago and it works, even got it TUEV approved when the car was registered in Germany. Steff
  3. Pete, Stop playing with Jim then... what did you expect?
  4. Nige, If you call QT than ask for Dave Marsh. He will certainly be able to answer all your questions. From memory, the QT is mounted slightly higher than the SG (~1inch) Steff
  5. Thanks Nige, totally stressed now and better go and get me another coffee...
  6. I was running the SG 3-link for 2 years now. Things to point out are that you certainly have to adjust your driving style! My 90ty with HD OME handled like a go cart on the road before I changed the setup to the Equipe4x4 kit estremo with softer italien springs and a SG 3 link in front. Quick entries into roundabouts sees the front end corners dive much more. Crucial is the shock setup. I was in the end running Oram shocks with external reservoir which can be dialled in to ultra hard for road handling (so hard that your not able to compress them by hand...). You're off road stability is different too as you do not see the car leaning anymor as all the movement is in the axle and not in the hole front of the car. The 3 ling was therefore a good addition to the amount of travel I already had in the back. I do not believe that there are many benefits of a 3-link in mud, but on technical sections (not necessary rocks) it is a great thing to have. The best read with regard to "scientific" testing of a 3-link and compare it to "traditional" setups is http://www.yellowdefender.com/twist_off_19...esult/index.htm This is now 7 years old but the basics of the SG3L has not changed. I have some pics of my car in twist off positions but can not (i.e. too lazy to set up a photobucket) post them. If someone wants to post them on my behalf PM me and I will e-mail him the pics. Cheers steff
  7. Give Dave at Ashcroft a call £475 http://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk/part_6.html cheers steff
  8. They are not Ed's old ones, they are my old ones, bought directly from Equipe4x4 in Italy.
  9. okidoki, sounds like a plan - will give curly a call tomorrow. Would think that we come up sometime in the afternoon. Hope he has changed the trailer back to a flatbed so we can get one of the babies back down south and get on cracking.
  10. Jim, don't worry was my pleasure. Just need to catch up on m sleep, late night drinking and getting up at 5:30 in the morning does not mix well. I had a great time and really enjoyed it. Wonder how many of you guys I've spoken to without knowing who you are. Next time we need to do something like name badges so I can put names to faces. Chris, thanks for the beer supply and nice job on the suspension mount - just don't forget the 2 trucks or otherwise someone will loose his perm... See you Saturday afternoon when we pick up the first one... can't wait!!! cheers steff
  11. Hi there you're saying that 285/75 are too big and therefore you're looking into 255/85? Well, 255/85 are BIGGER than 285/75. Remember, first number is the width in mm, second number is height of the tire wall expressed as the % of the width. So the 285/75 tire has a hight of the wall of 213.75mm and the 255/85 has a hight of 216.75mm. In order to get the overall hight of the tire you multiply by 2 and add 16inch for the rim. Or you check the BFG website which tells you that the 285/75R16 has an overall height of 33.1 inch while the 255/85 has on overall height of 33.3 inch. And before someone does the math, I know that (213.75*2/2.54*10)+16 only comes to 32.83 inches but that is a question you can ask BFG directly. www.bfgoodrichtires.com/assets/pdf/mud_terrain_ta_km.pdf Still, the 255/85 is one of the best tires i ever had on my car! Cheers Stefan
  12. Bren Hughes will be there. He has a stand next to Gigglepin. http://www.hughes-hill.co.uk/ Bren is a very helpfull guy, give him a call before so he can bring what you need. steff
  13. Ok, after reading all this it seems that the majority believes it's a good idea to wear helmets on challenge events. On event's like Laosa (sp?) in Portugal, Croatia Trophy and the 8 days of OR magic in Oz it's mandatory already. What about communication with you co driver then. It's hard enough to shout at him without the bitch wearing a helmet. If he now wears one he will never hear me :-) Any suggestions on a good wireless intercom that works with a helmet? I know the Peltor system (Pit lane system), but are there any good alternatives? cheers stefan
  14. MItsuboshi wanted to test their car for insulation, put a cat in and left it for the weekend. on monday the open the car and the cat was dead due to lack of oxigen. LR heard about it, did the same, on monday when they opened the car the cat had escaped... something like this...
  15. Let me give you an idea how it works outside the UK and you'll see that what we have here it is very much worth fighting for. In Germany and Austria every modification to your car has to be "TUEVt". This means that if you put a smaller steering wheel on your car, or a snorkel, or a 2" lift you have to got to your local TUV (=MOT) station to get it approved and registered into your V5 equivalent car papers. Well a TUEV station will only do that if you have a certificate from the manufacturer that the steering wheel is tested and made for this model. Same with springs etc. (BTW, orange springs are not certified and are illegal in Germany, OME are certified). To get these manufacturer certificates they have to spend a lot of money and therefore only a few are doing it. If you modify your car and do not get the TUEV on the modification your insurance and registration become invalid. Tried to get my BFG 255/85 registered and it took 5 MOT stations to do, forget 35" Simex, they only laugh at you. So now my car is registered here and I thought i'm safe and here we go again... Steff
