  1. Hi All, I need to replace the n/s headlight on my 24 v Lightweight as the unit is corroded. The o/s one is not much better so I'm trying to find a source for a pair of new units with bulbs (I don't really want sealed beams). I'm new to 24v electrics and I'm having trouble finding them on suppliers websites. Can anyone tell me the part numbers I need? It is a 1978 Series III. I'd be keen to go halogen if possible for improved lighting. I've set myself a target to get the known jobs done by booking a MOT next week so must get this sorted Cheers, John
  2. Anyone know how to run Microcat without windows? I only have Apple Mac machines Cheers, John
  3. I had a P38 DSE for a couple of years and seem to have been very lucky with it - no problems. I did have it chipped when I bought it though by James French - it was a bit sluggish as standard.
  4. Seconded - I used the extension kit in my old TD5 110. Loads of extra space.
  5. Did your alarm still work when you had the 'two honks'? Mine is a 2001 TD5 90 CSW and the alarm works as it 'should' most of the time - ie indicators flash and the red light on the dash flashes properly. However every now and again I get the horn going twice and no red LED on the dash. If you open a door the alarm goes off though so it seems to be arming correctly? I'll take a look at the under bonnet plunger if I can find it - anyone got any other ideas????
  6. It is the back of ALF indeed. Mark had some tubes bent up that went up the front of the screen and bolted through the flanges you can see against the canvas. Theses gave even more strength. I don't know how they'd have stood up to a roll but they took the weight when I 'leant a bit far' into a bank when out laning a few times
  7. We went for the day yesterday (Sunday) and I thought it was well worth the trip - it has the making of a fantastic show if they build on this year. I looked round in the morning and spent the afternoon marshalling on the off-road course which looked pretty good. Most of the punters were well behaved except for one woman driving her husband round in a white Disco who refused to listen to my advice to take the green route instead of the red route over the pipes .......
  8. Yep they do fit Series tubs Will ...... Hopefully pics below...
  9. Indeed - the guy I sold him to is thinking of selling and I have first refusal so its a waiting game..... I'll dig out some pics.
  10. Thanks guys - thats the one I was thinking of Cheers, John
  11. Hi Jon, Funny you should post on here, I've not been on for ages and may be buying back one of your old trucks myself ....
  12. Morning all, I can remember seeing an article / advert in one of the magazines a while back for a mesh cage that replaced the hood sticks on a Defender 110 Double Cab - the mesh cage had a lockable drop down rear door for security and provided a solution to keep the contents of the load bed secure whilst keeping the original look of the canvas tilt from the outside. I've trawled the web sites and asked around but although a couple of people remember seeing something no-one can remember the detail. Can any of you help with info here? Or am I imagining things? Cheers, John
  13. As most of you will know my 90 had an immobiliser and alarm and still got nicked. The MSS cubby then got crowbarred open. The Series III has a MSS cubby - no alarm or immobiliser and will get a tilt at some point. Security is via a crooklock when out and about and a discklock over the steering wheel at night. I also have a clutch claw which locks all 3 pedals together and stops them being depressed. Best thing is just make it harder to steal so they move on.
  14. They were collecting here last week unfortunately
  15. I'm thinking that they rolled it empty to get at the wheels - the front end was straightish so it hadn't driven into anything - just dents from rolling. It appears to have been taken for the wheels, snorkel, steering guard etc and rolled to make their job easier. They didn't take the time to remove the Griffin exhaust or Hannibal roof rack though.
  16. Not really - covered in diesel and engine oil, tubs bent and not a straight panel on it.
  17. Thanks for all the support. I went to see it today, looks a bit of a state - I took some pictures and will upload and post later. Cheers, John
  18. Yep - it had an alarm and immobiliser fitted. No one heard it start up so it may have been pushed or towed. At this stage I don't know more than that it was found in a local field upside down with the wheels and possibly other items missing.
  19. Well it has been found and recovered. Bad news is that it was found in field with no wheels having been rolled according to the police. Garage that recovered it say "its a bit of a mess..." Once the police have finished with it the insurance company will assess it - sounds like there is sod all chance of it being repairable though.
  20. Some thieving scumbags knicked the 90 off my drive last night. M reg 300tdi CSW BFG MTs on black alloys Tow bar Hannibal Roof rack Safari snorkel Chequer plate on wings, bonnet, cills Mobile Storage Systems Cubby box Keep your eyes out please Cheers, John

    exhausts

I looked at Twisted Performance at Billing and wasn't impressed with the exhaust or their attitude so I walked away. I went for a 3" single silencer system from Griffin Performance. It is a straight though smooth flowing system but the centre box stops the 'bomming' you can get at cruising speed. What I liked was the way it slotted together without the mild steel flanges I'd seen on some systems. Fits nicely out the way for off-road and sounds much better. Mid range power seems better as well.
  22. My 110 XS was still fine at 14 months old and 16,000 miles. The door seals leaked when wading but I'd not had any of the other 'regular' problems. Very pleased with it but I sold it a few months back to go towards a mortgage for my new house purchase (release of some capital and a diesel Golf for lower commuting costs). Just the one Defender now - but based on my experience I'd have another Puma in the the future.
