  1. Does anyone have any opinions on Galv chassis from Marsland's? I'm looking for a replacement for my S1 & they are the only company that I've found that can offer me one in a time scale that isn't glacial! Spendy at £1800 but can do it in around 8 weeks. Thanks, Mick.
  2. I like your style Mikey! I'm sure this will get flamed but asbestos is seriously good as a friction liner or heat resistant material (until it kills a few people). I work for a Canadian owned company & they can't understand why I spend thousands removing asbestos when they still produce the stuff!
  3. ^^^^^^ I've taken crankshaft pulleys off v8's including two 4.6 lumps with a good air ratchet. All done whilst they are on the floor. Mick.
  4. Gent's, I've taken the engine out of my S1 for overhaul & want to support it on my engine stand. The stand is a Machine Mart jobbie that has 4 arms which you would usualy bolt to the back of the block, is there any where on the 2.0L Siamese that I can bolt to? I can't see any where that looks strong enough... Cheers, Mick.
  5. Gent's currently stripping my '54 S1 & have just removed the master cylinder, pedals etc. Compared to the 110 the original S1 system looks inadequate but then I doubt she will do the same kind of speeds or weigh in at 2 tonnes! With everything working as it should how effective were the brakes on a S1? I don't want to deviate from original by fitting a remote servo etc but I would like to be able to stop when I have to... Planning on keeping engine etc original so no 'squirted V8 to worry about. Cheers, Mick.
  6. If anybody else is looking for a copy of the series 1 parts manual I have found one online. If you need a copy PM me your email address & which manual you want: 1948-1953 or 1954-1958 I also have the workshop manual if anyone needs that. Cheers, Mick
  7. Just seen your edit. I have the workshop manual but thanks any way
  8. Marc you are a star. PM on it's way.
  9. Gent's, I'm trying to retain as many origional parts from my series 1 as possible but the springs are shot. By that I mean that she is sitting with around 1" clearance between the axles & the bump stops. The leafs look in good condition other than the fact that they are almost straight. Can these be re-profiled or do they need to go in the skip? If they can be saved can you suggest a company that can do it please? Cheers, Mick.
  10. Does anyone have a parts manual for a series 1 that they are willing to share? If it matters it's for a 1954 86" Thanks in advance, Mick.
  11. At last, a use for Diesel! Cheers Mikey
  12. Gent's, I have just aquired a series 1 with a seized Siamese engine, I've been told that No. 3 piston is at fault. Assuming that the rings are stuck in the cylinder what is the best thing to pour in there in an attempt to free it off? Cheers, Mick.
  13. Cheers Chaps, Julian, converting to -ve earth would be the easiest thing to do but I don't want to on this truck. Thanks, Mick.
  14. Gent's, Can Megajolt be used on a vehicle (series 1) with +ve earth? Mick.
  15. Thanks Jason, Is that the same Dunsfold Land Rover that owns "The Collection"? Forgive my ignorance but what does "NoS" stand for? As it's it the Land Rover context I'm guessing it's not nitrous oxide!
  16. Thanks to Dave (Rusty Wingnut) & a very understanding Mrs I shall soon be adding a rather dilapidated series 1 to my collection. I'm under no illusion of how much work is needed (a couple of years worth I reckon) but I'm comfortable with the work itself. What I could do with from those in the know is a list of useful series suppliers for things like chassis outriggers, engine parts, axle parts, glass, seals etc. Thanks in advance, Mick.
  17. What's the resistor kit do Ralph? Give better speed control? Haven't come across this before. Mick.
  18. Muttley, You know you can cheat & buy the brackets don't you?
  19. ^^^^ I'd change both the master & slave, in my experience one usualy follows the other if you don't.
  20. Gents, On a R380 V8 bell housing there are 6 tapped holes for securing the flywheel cover plate. Can anyone tell me what thread they are please?(They aren't M6 or M8) Also the flywheel cover plate should have a rubber seal sat in the groove, anyone know the part number? I don't know the age of the box or bell housing I'm afraid. Thanks, Mick. Edit: If it helps the bell housing has HRC2773 cast into it.
