  1. yer did the same but used black silicone sealant
  2. how does the truck run? do u get blue smoke on:- a ) only on start up then clears b ) when booting it eg up a hill c ) on over run eg off the power coming down a hill d ) all of the above if you take the oil filler cap off does the engine breath through it (is there a pressure trying to push the cap off)? is there lots of oil in the top inter cooler hose ? I would check out the above before jumping in and pulling the engine out if the truck is running ok then and there is very little/no blue smoke then i wouldn't worry to much there are prob lots of of other bits that need attention
  3. Good luck guys ...very jealous watch out that the camel doesn't go into one those "Government warehouses" .... when you get on the road always try the local radio stations they should match the location
  4. Got and fitted a 50 quid pump from the local land rover parts place.... It looks a little different to the old one lets hope it last longer thanks for the input........... clad to see it doesn't just happen to me
  5. afternoon all, The bearing on my 200tdi water pump has just gone and has left my sitting at work waiting to be recovered home.. where my tools are Now the pumps only been on for 9(ish) months and i cant of done more than 2000 miles... I cant remember what make this pump was but it looked good.... brass impeller etc.. So any else had problems with water pumps giving a short life span? is there a make thats seems to last longer or shorter? i guess i could be doing my alternator belt up to much .... thanks for any input.
  6. I thought you had to loosen the IP sprocket bolts which gives u the adjustment needed. this will not change the timing on the IP as its been locked off with a pin going through it... this is how i have done it in the past and i think the Haynes give details of this method . Edit: IP = injection pump
  7. thanks for all the input... been working on my own truck for a bit as its MOT time of year I will have another crack at it soon and will update the thread paul
  8. Have you checked the condition of your rad as the fins can rot, it may look fine but touch then and it can be like pine needles falling of a Christmas tree and make sure its not full of mud also the speedo is a mechanical connection with a cable going into the transfer case behind the hand brake on the (looking from back to front) left hand side, if you do a lot of wading/mud plugging check the cable is seated properly cos you dont want water/crud getting into the tcase
  9. bet that hurt sorry spacers would be the cheaper option and would not change the ride as the spacers are incompressible.....
  10. thanks will give that a go
  11. Ok good idea "Clamping all the pistons" ...... set of g clamps should do it or is there a better method ?
  12. Morning all, this is not my truck but a friends (as if i dont have enough to do to my own) its a 1977 series 3 88in. Its that time of year where it needs an MOT every thing is done part from i cant get a good brake peddle If i put my foot on the brakes, the peddle will travel to the floor and there is some braking force but not enough.... on one pump i get a very good peddle and all the wheels will lock up parts replaced are:- new master cylinder, new all round drum cylinders, new shoes (and springs etc..), new drums, new flexible pipes (in case they were ballooning), new copper pipes. So the whole lot is a non servo single pipe system ... so should be the simplest thing to sort I have bled 10 liters of fluid through it, so there is no air in the system or old fluid, the shoes springs are on the correct way, and each drum has been adjusted in turn. If i camp off the fronts i get an ok (ish) peddle I have tried every thing from my post [LINK] back in Jan (been hoping the problem would go away ) So any ideas on this problem would be great as its starting to do my NUT in thanks Paul
  13. My truck had a like noise..... The bearing was fine .... in the end found that one swivel was full of mud not oil hope you find the source of the noise soon...
  14. Not ever seen a roof console, so iam not much help at all But what i/my mates with 200d1's have done is to move the stereo and cb to the glove box hole self type thing (which never holds any thing for very long when offroading ) and then where the stereo was is a nice location for which controls light switches etc.... this setup work well for offroading but i guess the cb and stereo could be a bit of a reach if you have short arms just and idea
  15. james, thanks for this thread and thanks every one for posting
  16. R you sure you didn't leave the winch in gear sorry
  17. Morning all, Trying to help a mate get his 88in S3 through the MOT Done lots of welding new rear X member etc... and just found one of front the inner arches is missing As the inner arch is a bolt on bit of metal does any body on here know if its needed for the MOT ? thanks as always for any input
  18. I have sheared one do i get a prize the locking nut was rust welded on and the bolt head just came right off hardly touched it , 5 mins with the windy gun on the nut and it came out... still not replaced it and that was two axle rebuilds ago...
  19. to get the wire off i would try: Find a nice good bit of Halyard rope and on to the exposed wire end tie a Prisik knot (i know you know what one is but ) then in the loop use your high lift jack and try and jack the winch rope out from the bumper.... I think worth a go it might work and would be safer
  20. Andy yes thats great PM'ed you will get him to join and donate to the forum 4 this ...
  21. No harm in asking so .... Just had a phone call from a mate who's 300tdi 110 has just broken down due to alternator probs.. So he brought a new alternator..... but then found he has warped the pulley. He needs to get down to Newquay tonight 4 a job training course tomorrow... he has tried (or so he tells me) all the local places but cant find any one with a pulley. So if you are in the southampton area and have one for sale ... its a sellers market thanks Paul
