  1. Right, I've been um'ing and arrgh'ing and I had a good crawl underneath and it's in good nick really and the bulkhead is fine. I think I was just on a bit of a downer about it. So I'm keeping it and I've set a budget of £2000 to spend on it, and if ends up looking nice I'll splash out on the Exmoor lock n fold seats.
  2. I had a good look at your thread and I'd love to do it all myself. I wish I could take mine and a dead CSW and could build a Defender better than new, all stainless bolts, copper grease everything. Isolate the ali from the steel. Glav chassis, bulkhead, cappings. But... With 2 small kids and full time job I just don't have the time. I think I might just go buy this http://vlcv.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=338 Or http://www.landroverman.com/ (ex police 110 page2) Or this http://www.exmod.co.uk/stationwagons.html (ex MOD bottom of page) All TD5s, I like my 300tdi but accept TD5s are maybe justbas good
  3. Yep, need seats for kiddy winkles, was looking at the Exmoor lock n fold rear seats. I've seen another CSW TD5 for just under 10k, decent miles, 2002. Does anybody have a clue what mine might be worth? 98R 300tdi HT 88k 2 owners. Great Landy apart from the above.?.
  4. Haven't got time, (or space) would have to pay for chassis swap
  5. Submitted too fast - Doh! Title should be "upgrade or swap" Hello all, again (not logged in for ages) Right time has come and my Defender needs some love. Rad leaks, heater not working, rear X member has a few small holes. Now I could sell it and buy a newer 110 CSW LR man has an ex police TD5 that would cost me about 9-10k to swap ( I need rear seats now ) Or I could take my current 110 ( which is a great car all round really, last of the 300tdi's, Hardtop with rear windows, low miles and I'm 2nd owner ) Now I'm half thinking I could spend less and upgrade my current car and end up with something longer lasting? New galv chassis Galv bulkhead Exmoor rear seats New Suspension What do we think?
  6. But it's not straight forward I have 2 very good rear seats that came out of a Transit bus, had them adapted to fit in the back of my 110 Hardtop (bolt through the floor). They have internal inertia reel seatbelts and are forward facing (needed for kiddie seat) They sort of half sit on the box bit at the side and have a leg. Bolt through to spreader plates. Cost me a few quid (but not as much as the Exmoor ones) Anyway while storing in my Garage a Rat the size of small horse has eaten the base of one of the seats. (grrrrr ) So it's going on the tip unless somebody wants it, will need new foam and covering (base only) I'm keeping one. J13 of M25 (will be skipped at the weekend)
  7. Well you live and learn, no more lending. When I first drove it when it had the difflock on it felt like the back brakes were stuck on. I onnly drove it 10 yards moved it out of difflock as soon as it felf wierd I then drove about 500 yards and the light went out parked up and left it fearing the worst. I drove it on Sunday for the first time just to see and although the light was off it felt tight, a bit like it was dragging a bit for about a mile. I changed down to low box at about 5mph and got the biggest clunk ever, like a release of pressure. It now feels normal and free'er. What I don't get is 'Wind up' in my head everything is steel so it shouldn't wind up it should just go bang! and shatter I know steel has some flex but its not like a gearbox is made from elastic so how can it 'Wind up'?
  8. Lent my 300tdi to somebody and I think they have driven it with the diff lock on, on 'A' roads and Motorway, maybe 150-200 miles, now I dare not drive it but what's the worst outcome. (or the best)
  9. On the 300TDI there is a small rubber pipe that bridges the injectors my engine cover has kindly worn through one. Need to get another but I need the part number Ta in advance Matt
  10. Old 110 is "Doris" New 110 is "Fridge" (its white) Disco3 is "Disco" has no soal
  11. Can't help with which one but may I suggest you order both they are only £8. That way your not going to get stuck then just sell the other on ebay or on here. Could save you a lot of fanny'ing around also for the cost of a Master cylinder bets replace this aswell. Also I have bought pattern parts on these before and ended up just ordering the OE ones as the pattern part were not great, it would not bleed. Also on the bleeding front a pressure bleeder (£15 from Halfords, but you master needs a screw lid not a push fgit as some have) makes life 10000 times easier when doing slaves. Comes in handy for brakes also. And lastly I've found that trying to get the slave to engage with the little rod attached to the clutch fork is a major PITA I thing in the end I discarded the little plastic retaining clip that holds it to the fork and used a dot of superglue to glue it into the slave just strong enough to hold it vertical until it all mated up. Prepare to get a lot of brake fluid in you armpit :-) There you go, my 10 penneth worth good luck I reckon of all the jobs I've done on my Landy which is a lot this ranks as the worst / most annoying.
  12. Look here for a good guide http://www.web-rover.co.uk/nav.php?p=articles/steeringwheels But I think your answer is yes
  13. Went today, (say hi if you saw me, had my black Disco3 with a mashed up rear passengerdoor, daughter in backpack then pushchair) I have to say I wasn't impressed one bit. The arena had very little going on and the trade stands were badly oragnised took me ages to find Kevin and buy a dash console. Not going again, poor venue, poorly oraganised.
  14. If there is any more I'll take just one :-) I have no friends If so it will help towards a purchse of a bulkhead removal bar Matt
  15. Injector shroud for a 2.5 Nad. No bigger than a 1pence £37 + Vat!!!!!! so I bought a Britpart one from www.lrdirect.com for £5 like this for a photo http://www.lrdirect.com/customer/product.p...roductid=120013
  16. Right I've added some pictures of Doris the 110 in her new home, as far as I can tell for the past 15 years she has had mostly an urban life in Oxford, Maidenhead and West London. She is now happy in Wales, much better scenery Bit of a dial up warning Rolling hills Nice easy start Not even testing her Just a quick check over Good lane
  17. I have an easy no need to be under the car type set up. Halfords sell an orange oil funnel for about £5 this is very good as it has a flexi tube attached to bottom. I've cut an old washing machine hose down and this is a perfect tight push fit onto the funnel pipe and fits perfectly into the axle and gearbox fill holes. Put funnel in engine bay high up pipe into gearbox and let gravity do the work. Makes it a very simple job no pumping or spraying oil every where.
  18. Stereotyping a bit but seen as they own a Kia / Deawoo / Proton type car I bet its an misserable old git who has put the post because one day some body reversed into his drive. So nowadays he's more than happy to remove it everytime safe in the kowledge nobody will ever reverse onto his drive again.
  19. Its not a bad idea, loads of lanes round here, in fact the LRO adventure club stop here on a Sat night when they are doing the Wales safari. If planned right, for me at least, set off Friday early, spend Friday on Salisbury plains, B&B or camp then onto Wales (Strata Florida) and a few other lanes B&B or camp and then lanes around Tywyn and Bala. Home back to the big smoke
  20. Well she made it, 6 hours drive! 2.5NAD are very slow, 55-60 all the way!! , My wife followed in our Disco 3 and got 39.8 MPG!!!!!!! (usually 22-26MPG) Like the old girls in Eastborne, Doris the 110 has come to the seaside to live out her years (hopefully another 20+ years). She's an old 110 and unlike my newer Defender has no Ali corrosion and has galvy cappings. She will need a new chassis one day and other consumables like engine and gearbox but she's here and the greenlanes are much better than the ones in London.
  21. Right so Doris the old 110 is done now and MOT'd. Tonight she sets off from London to Wales to start her new life by the seaside in Snowdonia. Its going to be a long trip but hopefully she'll make it. Many thanks to all who've helped out (too many to list) with various issues along the way. Done New Master cylinder New Slave New rear Wheel bearings and Oil seals New rear shoes New discs & pads Full service New PAS box New PAS pump (& pipes to fit - a saga in itself) New Rocker cover (my fault - I put a new gasket on and over tighten the middle bolt - it shattered) New Glow plugs Welded in New Footwells Welded Front Chassis Leg Welded Front O/S Outrigger New Gear Knobs Vanity New Gear Gaiter Vanity Replaced Front Brake Pipes New Wheels and tyres (tubeless off my 300TDi) New Battery New Timing Belt & Seals New Steering Damper New Gearbox Oil New Rear Diff Oil New Front Diff Oil New Fuel & Oil Filter New Engine Oil Fit New Radiator New Head New Shouds New Guides, Rollers and Tappet slides MOT
  22. We always gone in TVRs before, taking the 110 this time for the 1st time (white R reg with a roof rack, in Beausejour this year as at the time Houx was a bit iffy) The 110 is going to be luxury in terms of space, carp in terms of speed. Setting off 3 days earlier though to make sure we got enough time to get there We always have a flag with 2 blue stripes on so nif you see a White 110 (I may stripe it also) and a camp with a falg with 2 blue stripes stop in for a beer they will be cold as for the 1st time we'll have room for a fridge and a generator.
  23. Just seen Jule's post selling tickets for Le mans. I am going for the first time this year in the Land Rover and wondered how many are going.
