  1. I had a similar sized quote from Adrian Flux. Try giving Frank Pickles a try : http://www.frankpickles.co.uk/4x4-off-road-insurance.asp I got a much better offer from them. Kev
  2. I'm planning on coming down to watch this one. Do I need to book camping space for a caravan?
  3. Have a look at this thread... http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=4804
  4. Ok, so I've got a 96 disco, but I've disconnected an reconnected the battery countless times and not ever had a problem like you describe. If I remove the SRS fuse (F7 I think on mine - it's underneath a yellow cap) then the light will stay on. Are you sure you've not popped a fuse? My OBDII port is at the bottom left of the panel beneath the steering column (i.e. the fusebox cover) Hope this is of some help. Kev
  5. The ARB joints might be ok - you could try loosening the ARM mounts to the chassis, or levering the ARB joint back to where it should be. I managed to do something similar a little while ago, though I broke the ARB ball and socket too. I would check out that brake line very carefully though! Kev
  6. I've just completed a similar install. Very pleased with it, and the gubbins for the electric seats weren't in the way either. I used a http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230483165135 as a pressure control switch. It's the thing that you get on a standard mains compressor, and seems to work ok. at £11 including postage it seemed like a good bet. Kev
  7. For general work, I use the dremel cutting discs in pairs - much less prone to breaking due to fat-handedness. I find the grinding stones effective for light work, i.e. surface ruse removal, but use them in anger and get them hot and they just fall off the mandrel. The wire cup brushes in my opinion go round too fast, and mis-shape easily. I do use the thing a lot though, for all sorts of little odds and sods.
  8. Nice - entertaining and informative. Better luck at Somerley. Kev
  9. Quite literally 'split' charge, as oppose to 'sequential' Your volt meter could be used to read the batteries independently when the engine is off, but as soon as you're charging, the two batteries are connected together, and so you're charging - and therefore reading the voltage of - both simultaneously. Probably not a lot of benefit in monitoring both / switching between them, as the major concern should be how well you're charging them, and the voltage on the main battery when cranking, but if you like fitting switches or gauges, go for it!
  10. 16V between where and where? My guess is poor earth to battery, or maybe live to battery terminal. 'Then the lights went out' - have the bulbs blown because you were sending 16V to them?
  11. When they say 'they don't sell any others', they list under related items, a Britpart TD5 clutch kit...
  12. Oops, just realised that I'm not... Got my dates confused, see you at Ringwood though!
  13. Barbie sounds good. I'm planning on coming to watch / take photos, and cheer Mark and Adrian on.
  14. Steering damper? I've seen one of these fill up with mud off road, causing the vehicle to be able to only turn one way, but I can't remember which!
  15. Does sound like the aux battery is not grounded properly. Have you tried putting a volt meter directly across the battery terminals?
  16. Best of luck with it. I've been following the RepRap project for a few years now, and never gotten round to building one for myself. I'll keep watching your progress with interest! Kev
  17. ...sounds pretty secure to me!
  18. The missus' is cable tied in (loosely, for that matter) and it comes up as an advisory, and has done for a couple of years. Really should get round to sorting that out!
  19. I know you lot love photos... Here's the example. About 3k miles, I reckon. Kev
  20. Yeah. I'll be putting a GKN one on tonight. I don't even have a lift - if anything I've got a 20mm 'sag' (due to age!)
  21. Mine's not in too dissimilar a condition - and it's only been on there less than 8 months. Was I being too rough with it perhaps? Ok, it was a **itpart one, but even so, about 3-4k miles tops, and it's knackered. How much life should I expect from a GKN or similar OEM one? Kev
  22. Where do I get forum stickers from? I've sent some money to White90, as a donation and a bit extra for a few stickers as per the other Forum Stickers thread, which he has acknowledged, but I've not heard anything about my sticker request? Do I have to have a minimum number of posts or meet some other special requirement to qualify? Who posts them out? Are there any in stock at the moment? Just trying to help spread the word, that's all. Kind Regards Kevin
  23. Does this mean that both filaments are now on inside the H4 bulb? Interesting to know if this shortens the life at all. Kev
