  1. Don't halfords only charge about £2.99 to change a battery ?
  2. The way you specifically mention engine cut off makes me think that you have something else in mind besides the key-operated one on the steering column that Landrover provided - or does that count as sufficient? I intend to come along for some fun. Kev
  3. I will be. I was there last Sunday too, at the Thames Valley 4x4 charity event, and the site is great at the moment. Plenty of people getting stuck in the sticky bits Kev
  4. I don't understand. Assuming your winch motors are isolated from the body / chassis and therefore all the current is flowing in your wiring, not through the structure: The same amount of current flows in the +ve wire from the batteries as does the -ve terminal. Kev
  5. £30 Kev edit: post mysteriously appeared twice, though you only have to pay once. Additional drivers can be added for a fiver.
  6. <some words shamlessly stolen from the club's website > Thames Valley 4x4's next event is at Broxhead Common and is in aid of Help For Heroes. This will be a fun drive around event suitable for all drivers, all vehicles and all family members to freely explore this MOD site. As well as being a Drive Around event we will be raising money for Help for Heroes, the club's chosen charity this year, with Remembrance Day coming up make this a special one, raising money whilst enjoying off-roading. This site is suitable for everyone with open areas for the more shiny vehicles through to mud-runs for the more prepared. The club will be there with Burger Van facilities, toilets, wheel wash and club caravan. All are welcome, this is being operated under Promotional rules so membership is not required, however you are welcome to join the club at the site. Gates open from 09.00am and all vehicles will have to undergo a simple scrutineering check. Please bring containers of water if possible to keep the wheel wash fed. I was there yesterday, and the site is in a really good state for pleasing all levels - the bomb hole at the top of the site is really sticky, the mud run is probably at it's stickiest, and the woods are easily drivable, but there are plenty of deep puddles to keep the more adventurous entertained. 7. If I leave the bonnet open, I get two chirps from the siren, and a solid red LED on the dash. Interestingly, I didn't get any flashes from the indicators though. Yes, leaving the bonnet disconnected altogether should have the same effect! Why have you disconnected it? Leaving the siren disconnected may upset the Alarm ECU and cause it to behave differently if it can't find it, but I can't confirm this. 'Normal' is 3 indicators from the winkers and after a couple of seconds the red LED flashes manically for a bit, then settles to a slow flash. Of course, all Discoverys are each a little bit different..... Kev
  8. and 1/8 BSP fittings once you've stripped it all down, so easy to connect up to stuff. Here's Mark's thread: http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=30732
  9. Led's don't "Blow" in the sense that bulbs do. Unless your vehicle has suffered a serious electrical incident, I'd be surprised if the Led itself was actually damaged. A typical red LED is good for being on continuously 100 000 hours or more. I'd also expect the alarm to sound when setting the alarm if the bonnet or a door is open, so given the number of things you've currently got unplugged... The alarm sounder should have it's own internal battery, which will cause it to sound if unplugged from the alarm ECU when the alarm is set, or the vehicle battery disconnected, but I would expect the batteries in it to be pretty much worn out by now. The doors locked/unlocked and bonnet open/closed is detected by switches - check these and their connections.
  10. Many times, and I believe the consensus is that it fits, but when you close the door, you find the lock doesn't line up with the thingy. So no. This really ought to be in an FAQ somewhere! Kev
  11. Well done chaps. It wasn't this rope, was it? Kev
  12. If it's Broxhead, I'll definitely be there, as I quite enjoy that site, and that's where I thought it was anyway.... If Hogmoor - I may pop along anyway! Kev
  13. Indeed - grand day out James, thanks for sorting the weather out for us too. I'll see if I can upload the videos that Sal shot.
  14. I could be interested in joining you James. Were you thinking of a route that went near a pub at any point that was close to Sunday Lunch time? Kev
  15. I picked mine up at the weekend, and got it muddy and oily on Sunday, due to throwing a bearing on an idler pulley on the A/C belt. Good quality rugby shirt, I was nice and warm driving around CORE Thanks Nige. Kev
  16. I've got 175A connectors installed front and rear, (http://torberry.co.uk/twopole.php) and they've happily jump started several vehicles since doing so, and without the engine running on my truck either (simply out of curiosity rather than for any technical reason). I used 4.5m of 35mm² cable and soldered to the Anderson connectors, and the vehicles have started like they've just been started off their own fresh battery. Stared a neighbours Frontera on Sunday which he had failed to start using his own somewhat more flimsy jump leads off his van, which was entertaining! Really pleased with them so far, and easy to use.
  17. I wonder if they actually painted it like that, or if it has 3 cousins somewhere!
  18. A 'springer' Most have a small grub screw holding the long straight bit to the spring, which you can loosen, then shorten the whip to tune. Once you've found a good spot, you may choose to trim some off, or you may not. Kev
  19. Bit smaller than Hogmoor, but I kinda like it. It'll be quite stcky in places I should think. I'll hopefully be there. Kev
  20. And maybe get some practice in, under a more controlled situation?
  21. The 85% thing is an advice thing, particularly if you are not experienced at towing. Assuming your licence pre-dates 1997 (which you say it does) and it has category B+E then you can tow whatever the towing vehicle is capable of - which will in any case be limited to 3500kg for overrun brakes. The VIN plate and manual will tell you what your vehicle can tow - the second number down is the maximum train weight i.e. vehicle plus trailer. Kev
  22. Oh, yes - thanks for putting a link on - I forgot to include it! I don't think they're going to be great, but I thought I'd give them a look. I'm trying to work out a good location for a busbar of sorts, but for now I thought I'd give them a try. The ones in the original post looked pretty good. I wouldn't have minded seeing a bit more gap between the battery clamp/bracket and the terminal posts thought! Kev
