Toyos will be better than the rock-hard km1 bfg that you currently have,
-
I know how trials work, been doing them for best part of 20 years in a variety of vehicles, As I thought, the tyre would be a bit stiff at 28psi, For doing specifically trials, then a more aggressive tyre is a no brainer, however for an all rounder then your stuck with the choice of Mt's on the market, & as you say the choice in a 255 size is even more restricted,
-
My first thoughts there are look like tyre pressure's are a bit hard & too low a gear chosen,
-
Problem with the bfg is they are a hard compound off rubber which makes them last for ever, It's probably worth mentioning that the tipping point was when I drove to do my engine conversion it was still td5 powered, after the conversion on the way home with only the engine & gearbox changed, it was a revelation how much background noise was hidden by the td5,
-
255 85 on my 110, switched from bfg km2 which were a terrible tyre to toyo open country mt which is a much better tyre
-
strangely enough im contemplating doing exactly the same in putting a 20ft container on my BJT tri axle, mainly because i cant find a hiab man with a long enough boom thats not charging more than the container cost for delivery

update on this, the 1.4 Tbox still has the speedo drive in it, no amount of twisting, pokeing ,proding was making it come out, just so happened to have a 1.6 out a defender thats recently been engine swapped, ironically or luckily the housing fell out with the lightest of plain screwdriver prybar action, even better was it had a blue gear in it, the 1.2 tbox thats in my 110 also had the drive wiggle out which was a win, swapped them over & all good, more anoyingly i have to take the handbrake assembly off to get the retaining screw back in to secure the speedo transducer but thats todays job
-
In theory yes, but at the moment I can't get the old drive out the transfer box, I think someone has tried in the past as well because the housing has a chunk out if it
-
Currently have a m57 & 8hp fitted into my 110 which was previously a td5 (2004 my) Up until recently I ran a 1.4 transfer box which in conjunction with 33" tall tyres meant that the speedo was bang on, Recently swapped to a 1.2 transfer box that came from a 300tdi auto, annoyingly the td5 speedo drive won't go into the square drive of the fitted 1.2 transfer box, so it looks like I need to change the square drive, So the question for the hive mind is what speedo drive gear do I need ? Looks like I will end up buying the steel housing piece as I have a feeling it won't come out the tbox in once lump, Picture for your pleasure

Friend has just sold his 200tdi to a guy in Sweden who drove to Scotland to collect it for several thousand pounds, paid a big chunk towards the bmw conversion -

TD5 conversions are now so easy all the scrotes & undesriables are doing them -
my vague understanding of the AWDC safari at walters situation, is that WAM are picking the course layout & then the AWDC are agreeing to it, id love to be wrong but thats how i believe its happening going forwards, its also worth noting that the AWDC have another 3 safaris there this year i think with 2 being right at the tail end of the season

it has a mild lift, on OME springs & shocks all round,

I have those tyres fitted to my 110 with 16x7 et-20 compomotive wheels, I bought mine from Jerry Hunt at Se tyres,

m57 engined 110

the blackbird kit has the panhard rod mounting as part of the adapter to fit the p38 box -
m57 engined 110
RedLineMike replied to forkrentfitter's topic in Modified Vehicle Builds & Special Projects
i cant say if its better or worse longterm, it certainly gives more space in the engine bay going to the P38 box, with my conversion with the electric turbo actuator, it is really close to the steering box but still has clearance -

However unless your using a twin turbo engine, an m57 with a low mount air con pump does fit without needing to swap to the p38 box -
theres one forsale on FB market place at the moment reasonably local to me in Airdrie, comes with a cummins 6bt as well https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1367090714224471/

Could this be the understatement of the year?
RedLineMike replied to Peaklander's topic in Defender Forum (1983 - 2016)
for what its worth, that looks like a fox shock so its fitted the correct way up & dont have a boot from new -

just swapped my td5 for a M57, should have done it years ago, my only caveat is that although it is better on fuel than the td5 ever was, i like to make progress so that along with a roofrack & rooftent do hurt the mpg
