  1. Ive got a height adjustable tow bar on the back of my 300tdi, but Id like to replace with one of these. Trouble is, my tow bar has a stabiliser bracket for towing my caravan which wont fit with the tow jaw. So im thinking of fitting one of these above the tow bar. Should make it easy to slip a tow rope on it.
  2. Extreme4x4 sell them as well http://www.extreme4x4.co.uk/acatalog/NAS_DEFENDER_REAR_TOW_STEP.html
  3. How about this one with 830cca http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_734844_langId_-1_categoryId_165762#dtab
  4. That looks a great battery. Paddy, to summarise, its the cca (cold cranking amps) thats important as this is the power that turns your engine over. I think LR specify a battery of about 600cca, so the above battery looks good.
  5. Sorry to hear that. Where abouts in Sheffield are you? I'm in S8. Should I be worried? If you want to send me a description of your landy then I'm happy to look out for it, should the worst happen
  6. Maverik, looks like you have done a great job there Where did you get your doors from, and is it an easy job to remove and refit the innards (door handles, locking mechanism, window channels etc)?
  7. Cheers western, Ill have to get that sorted. Whats the worst that could happen if not earthed? Will the mother-in-law get more than a shock when she jumps in?
  8. I recently had a new galv chassis and from memory, there is no earth lead from my battery to the chassis. Am I looking in the right place? Should I be able to see an earth cable coming from one of thre battery terminals?
  9. Challo, Ive not used them myself, but this company sells them... http://www.heatedwindscreen.com/acatalog/land-rover-heated-windscreens.html This company used to sell them, but their site is under development currently.. http://www.beamends-lrspares.co.uk/ and this is worth reading.. http://www.lrm.co.uk/Archive%20Index/Technical/Fitting%20a%20Heated%20Screen/fittingaheatedscreen.html
  10. Ive just ordered a new genuine rear door (without wheel mount holes) for my 300tdi for £260 +vat from my local independent LR supplier. Decided against a pattern copy door, gone for genuine instead. For a genuine door, finding somewhere that had one in stock was the main problem. Was going to order one from here.. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=310235372576&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT but I ended up paying a bit more for one I could collecct myself locally.
  11. Took my doors to http://www.landroversuk.co.uk/workshop.html Not cheap, but it suited me to do it this way at the time. I can provide photos of before and after if required.
  12. Am I correct in thinking that there is some kind of replaceabe plastic switch (cant think of a better word) on the wiper motor itself, that can wear out?
  13. My galv chassis doesnt have any number stamped on it. As long as your original chassis is destroyed, then the new galv chassis assumes the identity of the old one. Cut off the section of your old chassis that has the number stamped on it and keep it safe. Then destroy your old chassis so that it cant be used in the future on another vehicle by someone else. If your old chassis stays in circulation, you may need to re-register your Defender with a Q-plate.
  14. So what year was the law changed regarding needing sestbelts on side facing bench seats? Is my 1996 300tdi too new to fit bench seats into?
  15. I assume (with the engine being the same) that this would be the same for my 110 300tdi?
  16. On my 300tdi the seals are riveted to the door bottoms. I believe older models had them on the floor sills. Can you not just screw them back onto your door bottoms?
  17. Terra Dog, do you have any tips on fitting the actual Safari (other than making it airtight)? Im about to fit mine in the next week or so. Cheers
  18. Hope so too, they would be useful to me. Fingers crossed
  19. Western, the photos in your link dont show on my computer, perhaps it because its an old link? Do they show for anyone else, or is it just my computer? I need to strip my doors down (remove handles, glass etc) for a respray, so those photos would be useful to me.
  20. I think your confusing KDX with RDX, which I think is a trading name for Bolt on Bits? Personally I wouldnt buy from BoB, cant explain why, ive just got a bad feeling about them.
  21. TSD, where did you buy your relay from please?
  22. Ive recently had a Richards chassis fited, and heres my undersyanding of how it works... The point system allows you to change certain key components such as axels, chassis, gearbox etc, as long as enough of the original components remain, to maintain the vehicles identity. I brand new galv chassis simply adopts the identity of your original chassis (which must be destroyed). If the original chassis is reused on another vehicle, then this 'other vehicle' may require a 'Q' registration. My galv chassis doesnt have a chassis number, but im thinking of stamping a piece of galv/stainless steel with the original chassis number, and then bonding it to the galv chassis.
  23. I dont want to stamp into the galv incase it goes through. I thought that by stamping a metal plate I could then bond it to the galv chassis. Obviously my galv chassis doesnt have a number on it, not that it matters to me.
  24. You could first cut off the front section containing the chassis number, and keep it for your own record. Im thinking of stamping a metal plate with my original chassis number, and them bonding it onto my galv chassis.
  25. It was only when I fitted the new relay that I suffered the problem. As soon as I put the original relay back in, everything was fine again.
