  1. Well the stat turned up at long last - only 5 days late Just fitted it and was going to test my old one but there was no point, the only desaster I had was that stupid plastic plug. The top of it snapped off just above the thread but I was able to remove the threaded part. Luck for me I had a steel plug that fitted, if anyone has the part number for the plastic plug let me know as the steel one will react. Now back to the stat - this is what I found. About 1/4 of the seal had gone - hope you can see it in the picture.
  2. I fitted one from a Ford Mondeo to my 300tdi and an X-Fan to control it. It was a tight fit and a lot of cutting with the Dremil so check how much room you have, it does nothing for me as the 300tdi runs cold compaired to your V8.
  3. Be ready to see the inside of your bulkhead it will be a good time to clean up and paint any bad bits. You will also be able to see your heater flaps - well some of them + heater ducting.
  4. Bad new about the head but good they found it. That was a good find for a new head - this will get all back and running
  5. What a lot of old tripe - oversize shoes dont exist and why would they. go back and ask for a refund and tell the boy he is an **********
  6. I would think the alternator or if lucky just the fan belt. Yer V8 wont have liked the over heating - hope the belt is the only damage that is done.
  7. Will need to look at that Western, would a good flush through the heater with a garden hose clear that out. I will have to drop the coolant level to change the stat anyway.
  8. Ye I know what you mean, I think it would be best to let them set it for you as it will take a while to get it set up just right as its a bit of a one off. Hope it goes well for ye and ye get her back up and running like a good one.
  9. Went for a 40 mile run today and at the end I had this Saying that on the way home at one point the gauge did go up to about the 10 30 point but it was only for about 1 min then went back to where it was. Anyway going to change it.
  10. I know that it may need more fuel the a normal 200tdi but I would not think you would need to touch th injection pump to get it. I just did not want you to void your warranties with out having to. Even being under fueled I thought that it should still pull in ever gear but just not to full potential. Adjusting on the diamaphram I thought would have done the job, I did this to my one and it made a marked improvment even with standard engine. As long as you know what you are doing then go for it. Could not get the people who overhaled the pump set up the new pump and still keep your warranty.
  11. No wonder I am freezing my nuts off, full insulated and heater was set up and I am still chattering. As said most days I only do about 2 mile to and from so never noticed it. I must also be going through fuel like an Unimog, would still love one though.
  12. I would not touch the injection pump till you get it to pull in every gear, the pump should be set so the problem may be some where else and you might just land up making things worse. With a big turbo and intercooler fitted she should pull well. A blast of black smoke on start up is OK but it should clear within about 2 min and then run clear.
  13. Same as above and make sure you get the correct width gasket, if she has not boiled she could just need the gasket replaced but do check the head. I would be surprised if its warped.
  14. Good my state must be well shagged or is it 9 o'clock - my gauge must be a different type to yours. My one is a bit like this And my needle just goes between the blue and the first line at the start of the scale.
  15. My new state should be here Monday or Tuesday so as soon as it turns up it will be fitted. What part of the gauge does yer needle sit at when hot now ?
  16. Why do you think there is a fault with your head ????
  17. Rained today and they worked a treat - no judders & a clean window for a change. The old Bosch ones did not feel hard but they did not wipe very well.
  18. Well I never looked to see if my ones were marked on the metal as Trico but can have a look in the morning
  19. Got the Trico blades today and have just fitted them, will see how they perform
  20. I did the same with my one a while back but put 25mm king Span behind the ply, made a big difference.
  21. Ordered new stat and gasket so hope this will fix things - will check old one when I remove it though just out of interest. What is normal temp ?
  22. Did a flush last year and adjusted the heater controls and all seam to work a lot better than it did when I got it but I never have a lot of heat to feed through. Had the radiator out when I rebuilt it three years ago and it was well flushed and also checked the heater seals and controls. On a normal day I only go about 2 miles and never expected it to heat that much but after 20 miles I did think the gauge would at least raise to about 1/4 of its scale.
