  1. In my best Davidi Attenborough voice....."as the Landrover slowly emerged from its tree....." A full days work (did you know that it is entirely possible to use a chainsaw one handed, yes adrenaline is brown and smelly) we got the bugger out of the tree or rather the tree off the landrover..... Damage assessment slightly dented roof just behind the alpine window, repaired in two minutes with a suction puller! Amazed that the sunroof wasn't in a million pieces, Perhaps the motoring gods do love me after all
  2. I greatly doubt I'll ever retire, there are times when I think its time to stop, then I find an insect that is sufficiently different from "normal" and my interest is re kindled once again. Sure, I have a few health issues, but nowt that will stop me, I'm kind of a stubborn so and so.... I'm irritated that I'm not allowed to drive for a while (medication) but thats relatively short term. Besides, I'm only in my early 60's and think I'm in my 30's....
  3. In a world without financial constraints (I wish....) Royal Purple is the dogs dangly bits....
  4. OK, so having ground to a halt on the Defender re-commision (due to only having one functional arm, yeah I knacked myself again..... don't ask) I'm about to change all the fluids (not the brake fluid though cos thats all done, ask my knackered left arm) so what brands do you recommend for the relevant oils. In the past, choice was dictated by what was cheapest (not being stingy there, but oils were changed well before due date)... So gents, what do you recommend - standard 200tdi, lt77, standard axles, transfer box and GKN overdrive
  5. My bug lists are probably longer than anyones, however the mods would remove them as OT, why ? I work as a professional entomologist........
  6. The el cheapo electric ones are not worth the scrap they are made of. Tried a few, binned ore. I find a hand setter to be the best for both rivets and studs. A cheap hand power one is infinitely better that the cheap electric ones
  7. Its the sound of money exiting your wallet😁
  8. Finish the blue 110 for its MOT (sooner rather than later as the Golf is on its last legs) then finish removing the tree that is still resting on the white station wagon....
  9. Re-buried in mass grave, gonna cause an archaeologist some serious grief in the future.... Grossly unpleasant task
  10. There will be plenty logs in my garden.....
  11. Now need to borrow a chainsaw.... To add insult, most of my ex-pets were buried under that tree, they aint buried now
  12. Didn't get a photo of the trampoline mating with the Passat... Or the slates (formerly) on the roof making the wifes Golf look like its gone thro a crusher or the wheelie bin taking up residence on the garage roof. Twas not a pleasant night, we had gusts in excess of 90mph. Odd thing is, we never had a power outage, normally if a pheasant breaks wind the power goes out....Forgot to add, the axle in front of the blue landrover was , yesterday, on axle stands at the side of the landrover, so that felt the need to wander round the garden.
  13. Landrover in a tree or the tree was tired and used the Landrover as a pillow
  14. Any one of these would work, I'll get me coat and not let the door hot me as I leave
  15. So I accidentally (don't ask, please) cut up the drivers side floor pan (Lt77) on my defender.... Anyone got a plan/dimensions to make a new one, seems a shame to have to buy one when I have enough 3mm ally plate to make one.
  16. Somewhere in a box of bits, I have an old 8 track that I was going to fit, only got one tape though, Bob Dylan (I think). Yes I would need two for stereo as the mice ate some of the passenger side speaker cone years ago and I never got round to sorting it out... The stereo, by the way, has a cassette player too, so it is really high tech
  17. I really wanted some of the spray on mud they used to sell, but the wife said no. Doesn't everyone need a can of spray on mud... https://www.wired.com/2005/06/spray-on-mud-makes-a-splash/
  18. To all those who like electrickery. Got some crusty terminals (Lucas type) that need cleaning. The majority are factory and tinned brass. Tin don't corrode easily , but the base metal does. If I abrasively clean the terminals, will this promote corrosion ? Can anyone recommend a good terminal cleaner in a can, most just seem to be an alcohol based degreaser.
  19. Sadly it was my Golf that ate its head gasket....Nothing lasts these days, it's only done 305K. Needs a head (strangely enough I have a couple of spares...) Stlii I have a willing helper, the youngun has been helping me, who says the youth of today are not willing to learn ! He's a keen learner, even got some labour to give me a hand swap the axle in the Landrover next week. I think we quite often underestimate todays youth. Most are keen and willing, but never get a chance, most modern cars you just plug em into a computer and Bobs your Uncle, you swap out the offending part. He asked where the diagnostic port was for the LR, looked shocked when I told him that the only electronics on a 1985 Defender was the radio...
  20. OH, it also ate its head gasket, possibly.....Wife just phoned, coming home in the big yellow taxi
  21. My PD 130 did much the same a few years ago, nowt got in the engine, it hit 305K miles this week!
  22. Tomorrow I"m gonna strip it down, just to see how many bits make an impeller....
