  1. I have now got the TDV8 almost ready for an MOT and have had it on the road for a proper test with suspension isses fixed. Having got the Vogue TDV8 and the Sport TDV8 I would say the sport is much more responsive. I was going to run it myself but have now bought one with a much lower mileage so am going to chip that and make it breath more easily.
  2. A couple of months ago I bought a Range Rover Sport from a salvage company to play with however it didn't come with the log book. No worries I have a receipt from a reputable company so wasn't that worried. Applied for the book in January along with 3 others which I now have however there was a query with the chassis number on the Sport and they asked that I confirm it. So I sent them a photo again no concerns as I am dyslexic I can easily muddle numbers and letters up. Got a letter this afternoon and basically the alarm bells are ringing strong and loud the fear being that I had bought a ringer. I checked the number on the chassis, the one on the slam panel and again the one on the windscreen. The one on the windscreen is different, Panic set in have I bought a chassis with a stolen body shell? My neighbour suggested I spoke to my local main agent who had supplied the build sheet for me. I read out the two numbers that I thought were correct and they confirmed that these matched the car registration that I had. I then read out the chassis number on the screen and the dealer confirmed that the registration matched an 07 Discovery 3. The couldn't tell me the registration which I understand. So it would appear to me that the chassis number behind the windscreen was put on in the factory incorrectly.
  3. Mark on the ground the positions of the wheels. I would think that will get you close enough. Just make sure the engine is at the front and the tow bar to the back though 🤣
  4. Is there any differences within the block or are the two blocks basically the same?
  5. Anderzander Thanks for your reply however the engine was stripped of some of the ancliiaries when it was fitted to the earlier car, but from memory there was no EGR system on either.
  6. Can anyone tell me the difference between a P10 engine and a P15 engine and how other than the engine number can one determine which engine I have? I have a good running engine I have taken from a salvage vehicle and is currently in my D2 that I am now breaking up.
  7. Some epople have far too much time on their hands.........brilliant. Love it.
  8. I wonder if it was made that way or if the fault developed?
  9. Agree with your reasoning as there is much less to worry about and everything required to be changed will be clearly visable rather than ECU in the shell that can be covered by trim etc.
  10. The vin tag is the least of my worries but will bear it in mind
  11. Most of the electronics are in the body shell. The only things that I know of that are associated with the chassis are the gearbox controls and the injectors. There maybe a controller on the transfer box as well but don't know for sure.
  12. That is an interesting way of looking at it. The vin is stored on quite a few ECU's so hich would relate to the newer vehicle. Less coding to do if I only have to re code the injectors. Now there is a thought I could put the disco on a TDV8 Range Rover Sport chassis. One is a 2007 the other a 2008 and will be able to get a good look at the chassis when the body is off. The reason for rebuilding the accident damaged one is that it has a lower mileage than the later one but the later one has a much better interior. I have listed all the damage on the write off and whilst I have all the parts and it is my favourite colour the body swap seems to be the least problematic. I had a look a a youtube video on changing the dashboard as the airbags have been deployed and that in itself is possibly a days job. without the bonnet, seat pre tensioners, wing, radiators, headlamps bumpers etc. Also I would need to get keys for the right off as it doesn't have them as it came from the police. Not difficult to get but the cost is £200 for a blank, £100 for the coding and £100 for a clone. It all adds up.
  13. Just had a light bulb moment. We are looking at this as a problem of lifting the body. It would be easier to lift the complete car up on jacks to a suitable height. Disconnect the body and then lower the chassis with the body supported.
  14. I have for both vehicle receipt for purchase from salvage auctions and V5C's so no issue on that score. It really comes down to when is an inspection necessary>
  15. The body has to come off both of them anyway. So I am with you on this. One is grey and one is black there is a facility on the logbook to change the colour so that can be corrected. Oddly enough this evening I was watching an episode of Wheeler Dealers on a AC Cobra that they had to put through the IVA test. Everything they tested would be irrelevant as the car has already been through the test by the manufacturers.
  16. The old one from the accident damaged car will be easy as the windscreen is broken when the air bags deployed. Mike Wasn't considering an IVA. This will be a totally standard car, no modification at all. In theory I am fitting a second hand body to an old chassis so if all the points are in the chassis then surely DVLA have no input. How would DVLA know because it would to all intents and purposes be a standard car. Not worried about insurance at this stage.
  17. Have been buying too many Land Rovers recently so need to sort some out. I have two Discovery 3's one with a smashed front end and the other with a knackered engine. From my point of view it is better to pyt the smashed one back together but the engine swap requires more work. It made me look at it another way. If I take the good body and off the knackered engined car and take the smashed body off the car with the good engine I can then put the good body on the good engined chassis. In the points based system according to DVLA, the chassis, engine, suspension steering and axles all come from one vehicle so I will not be required to notify DVLA. AM I correct in my thinking?
  18. OK guys looking good, put the new starter in this afternood but have lost a socket on the top hex bolt as I cannot get near it to remove it. Will retreive it the next time I have a starter issue. It was one B*gg*r of a job. The car is now cranking but not firing. Given the issue was a rebuilt BeCM could that now be the BeCM not talking to the ECU?
  19. I hope you can because that is a project that is imminent with one of my cars. There are very few on here with L322's but the number is growing. Last year I had an 04 HSE 3.0, and 08 TDV8 Vogue and an 07 TDV8 vogue and this year I have bought another 03 3.0 Vogue for spares so I am getting more knowledgeable about them. Good idea
  20. I have pondered this one myself. I have used a forklift in the past to raise a D2 body but that was for scrap so putting the forks throught the windows is not appropriate here. The A frame idea sounds like a possibility but would considder using a couple of very wide nylon slings used my vehicle recovery companies who recover cars with hiabs, The way I considered to do it, and I do have access to a fork lift, was to lift the body with jacks and support it as it goes up I will be very interested to see how this develops. The problem with D3 ans RR Sprts however is the early ones are being scrapped because it is not worth the cost to replace the engine. Eveb for trade it isn't viable
  21. 2grumpy As Western said don't worry about talking to yourself, I have been here for many years and nobody listens to me anyway!!. Thanks for the post, I have a TDV8 with only 80k on it and it looks likely that I will need to replace the box as mine failed in January and having done a couple of services it has not done any good. I also have a TDV8 Sport so am going to service that gearbox before I use it in the hope that I can prevent future damage/problems. When I read your post, before I got to the end, I was already there with the gearbox brain. At that stage you had 2 options, reprogramme the brain or do as you did, swap them over. Obviously easier if you do it when both boxes are lying on the ground. Can you post a photo of the brain so we all know what to look for? And welcome to the forum.
  22. I have the car on stands now waiting for the Starter motor to appear. Once I have that fitted hopefully everything will be good to go and I can get it MOT'd for the summer. I am hopeful it will arrive tomorrow.
  23. What are the chances of a dodgy starter motor when it was parked up running but with an BeCM problem!! Is this car ever going to let me use her?? Have been under her this afternoon and I can categorically say that I have a problem with the starter motor. I put a spanner across the terminals to see if I could get it to crank and there were a few sparks. Go a light out and shone it up and had a closer look at the terminals and noticed that the braded cable from the starter to the solenoid has detached from the bolt fixing. I guess I need to change the starter before I try again.
