  1. What other bits did you fit with the head apart from the intercooler? I was going to de-cat and de-EGR it while I've got most of it disassembled anyway as well as make up a little tuning box similar to the EVRY mod box as the truck is EDC.
  2. Interesting.... This could be useful for in the garage if you're viewing workshop manuals as well as using diagnostics software, I currently use my normal laptop for that but it's falling apart now!
  3. As some of you will know I bought a 300tdi auto disco from another member on here as he was having troubles with the coolant pressurising and got it diagnosed as having a cracked head. I set about stripping the head off the engine finding that the rocker shaft was snapped into three pieces on the way, I've heard this is a common problem on the 300 as they're made from cheese. With the head removed it was visible that there were long cracks from the glow plug holes as well as cracks between the injectors and the inlet/exhaust ports, to me this is evidence enough that its new head time without getting it tested to see the condition of it internally. Anyway that's as far as I've got as I'm working in Dublin with the disco being over at home in Yorkshire so time spent with it is pretty limited at the moment. I'm going to be ordering the bits to get the job done this week and have been looking at Tuner Engineering, they have new normal and performance heads and I was wondering if the extra money for the performance head is really worth it? Any comments or suggestions are appreciated.
  4. My defender was attempted to be stolen once and then actually stolen a few months after back around 2007, the first time they tried it I had the steering disconnected as I was half way through getting it ready for it's MOT. We woke up one morning to find it at the opposite end of the drive to where it was left (obviously realised they couldn't turn off the drive onto the road) with the steering cowling ripped off and the ignition barrel smashed. The next time they came back the truck had an MOT and was left on the drive while we were on holiday in France. A few weeks later the police called to say that they'd found what was left of the defender in some woods at a local traveller camp with a load of stolen plant. Since then the problem has only got worse with doors and bonnets etc being stolen on the street, mainly it's down to the fact that they can get rid of the bits easily and the people buying them will ask no questions because they're at such a good price. An example of this is on my local off road site's facebook group where people offer up their 4x4 items for sale, there's one guy who has a suspicious amount of facelift discovery headlamps and is selling them at £100 per pair. I've also seen him selling other 'easily acquired' pieces of land rovers and when questioned he claims that he's '***** 4x4' and breaks land rovers, obviously this company only exists by way of a badly made logo he's set as his facebook profile picture. Simon's security kit looks to be great stuff and if I own a defender again I will definitely be fitting most of it to the truck, saying that I'd also be keeping it in a garage to hopefully prevent bits of the bodywork going missing overnight.
  5. You'll have to clear the fault with a code reader or take it along to a garage who'll probably do it for the price of a pint. It's also worth nothing that most faults will clear themselves after so many ignition cycles.
  6. I'm looking at getting the mid sized one (40-200Nm) which is £75 on the website. Also on the website it does say that it's got the usual Halfords lifetime guarantee. Not sure if this might have changed since you bought yours Steve.
  7. Anyone have any opinion on the Halfords Pro torque wrench? Also any idea on the cost of it with a trade card? Cheers
  8. I'm in Doncaster, local pay and plays are Frickley 4x4 at Frickley or KORC at S****horpe. I've never found much in the way of lanes around us though.
  9. Oh ok fair enough into the flower beds it goes then! Thanks guys!!
  10. Hello everyone, I'm replacing the steering arm ball joint on my 90 and I've been following this tech archive post to help me through but I cannot for the life of me see when one of the parts are put in or where it goes! The part I'm talking about is this ring type thing. (Apology's for the appalling pictures I took them on my phone! ) Could anyone shed some light on where it goes please?
  11. Welcome! This dash sounds very interesting! Keep us updated!
  12. The guy is a member of my club (Hull4x4) He makes all sorts of stuff and everything is of great quality. IMHO I don't think you can go wrong for that price!
  13. Another way you could do it. And this is how I'm going to do it. Is to have a permanent dash mounted screen and then have a docking station mounted in the cab somewhere (I'm going for on the side of the cubby box or on the bulkhead.) Then you can have the laptop shut and out of the way but still use it. But you will need a usb mouse and keyboard. (which are quite cheap anyway.) Picture of the docking station
  14. Hang on I get you now. I think I'm going to do something a bit more complicated. I've just ordered 8m of shock cord so I'll post back soon with my version!!
  15. There's one in Rotherham and one in Doncaster Luke they must be the closest though.
  16. That sounds like a good idea but I can't quite visualise what you mean. Could you try and explain it in simpler terms for me please? Sorry.
  17. You want to use a piece of stiff wire so that you can push and wiggle it down through the hole until it pops out above the fuse box then tape then end of the wire you want to take up to the end of your stiff wire and carefully pull them up back through the hole. It's a bit fiddly but not too hard.
  18. Sorry to dig up an old post but did you ever find out how many splines the freelander wheel has Jim? I've been wanting to do the same for a while but I'm unsure if it will fit
  19. If it's not suitable for copper then why is !!!!!!!!BARRY SCOTT!!!!!!!!! cleaning pennies on the ad. Well yeah I know pennies aren't completely copper but still!
  20. They should fit (I think ) but I am pretty sure they wont have the correct load rating for a 110.
  21. I use a huge old slidey door cabinet type thing. It's hard to describe so I'll take a couple of pics when it's light! It is extremely sturdy and also extremely heavy!! Great as a work bench even though I think it is an antique!
  22. I love the NAS lights, currently looking into getting some myself. Litch let me know if you want to sell your old ones please
  23. Well they dont say how long you have to drive "one of these vehicles" for to make it equivelent to leaving the tv on 32 years. Yeah thats really sensible of them! Im guessing they used spray paint to spray the "slogans" - CFCs? If i saw some tree hugging weirdo coming at my landy with some paintstipper i definatly wouldnt be stopping!
