  1. Hi Welshlaner The booking form can be found at http://www.rovertorque.com/alrc2007/Entry_Form.doc Or <Ahem>follow the link at the top of the thread, and go to the National web site http://www.alrc2007.co.uk For RTV you need a standard Land Rover product, or one with another Land Rover engine. ( keeping things simple here) Additional return spring on the throttle or pump lever. Recovery point front and rear. Towing ring and tow bar will do. MOT form, tax disc, don't think you need the V5, membership of ALRC club, and bring the card. Soft tops must have the hood sticks, and they should have the brackets that secure them to the body. For the trial the sides must be rolled down, but you can roll the back up. Battery should be secure, in its original position, and if in the passenger compartment, should be covered. If it is under the seat I think that is ok, but do you really want to risk battery acid on you? Think I used half a plastic oil can. Most important thing is to bring your sense of humour, and beer tokens!
  2. 1 1/16" is indeed the size, and 27mm is the same as near as dammit. Go for the hex socket and you won't go wrong. I use a wheel brace which is a hex socket and has never let me down yet. There again as I have got older I have strayed from the path of riteousness - 6' scaffolding pole - and use a torque wrench when I put them on!!
  3. Is this the same as the one fitted to the RRC circa 1987? If so my mate has a take off from a RRC that he scrapped if that is of any use? In the south Wirral area
  4. Got to be better than the chippy smell some Diseasels are carting around in their wake at the moment. Hey. The Govt could use this to promote an anti speeding policy. We would all be following smoky smelly Diseasels round, and enjoying the experience! He he he. I'm off....
  5. Cheers for that. We haven't given up on using the Horseshoe pass, as we believe there are one or two avenues still open to us, but obviously I cannot discuss them on an open forum. Seem to have strayed a bit O/T about the national! Will PM you with other info
  6. LOL What great news! The tortured souls moral dilema at the pumps. As long as there is still enough for my bacon butty I'm all for it.
  7. An interesting thread to say the least. Does anyone remember the super light lightweight from many years ago? Think it was Carl Amos that built it. A little taken from everywhere. Hubs skimmed, drums skimmed, drive flanges, pannels like swiss cheese etc etc. I seem to remember he sprayed underneath with oil to stop the mud sticking between laps. Don't think that would be allowed these days if it is true. I did consider all this some time ago for the Range Rover, but if you are starting with a big heavy vehicle in the first place, there isn't much point

  9. Not sure. As I said, when I am away, the site updates are pretty haphazard, as I don't have direct access and have to rely on other people. It was cancelled due to a planning issue with the local council. Some lesser spotted newt resides there or something, so even though it is a working quarry we couldn't play. The word did go out to tother clubs afaik, but if you didn't hear, then we didn't do it properly. Our club does not have a green lane "presence" as it were. I whouldn't mind going on a few, as my eldest is mad keen to "do some offroading". It isn't something I have looked into much either to be honest, as I don't want to be the one being in the wrong place at the wrong time and upsetting the locals! I can read a map though! Are you a member of a club?
  10. My brother in law lost his TD5 Disco to the low loader trick. Broad daylight middle of town, was never recovered.
  11. I remember the event being cancelled , but not so sure about not telling anyone? I work away a lot, and wasn't home for the event anyway. Since I update their site, and it gets a bit haphazzard when I am away. I'll apologise / take the credit anyway!
  12. Keith The 3.5v8 is a non standard engine in the lightweight. What levers do you have in the cab? Black main stick with a red transfer gearbox lever and yellow push down on a spring? If so you have either a series 2 or 3 gearbox. If there is no synchro on 1st ans 2nd it is a series 2. Standard clutch for the landrover is a 9 1/2 " plate. If you have gone to the trouble of taking the gearbox out, you should really fit a new clutch and release bearing. Does the gearbox have a hydraulic clutch with the slave cylinder mounted directly to the bell housing operating a release arm on the release bearing, or is the slave cylinder mounted vertically on the side of the bell housing operating a cross shaft? The centre plate is probably the standard plate, but the cover plate could be off an SD1 ( for example) Yu would need to compare it to a standard cover to see what you have. Release bearing is probably standard. You should ask the guy you bought it off I suppose. Does the release bearing have a plastic body? These can melt if overheated whch eventually leads to a rock hard pedal and unable to release the clutch as all the movement in the cylinder is taken up by the free play.
  13. This year the National is being hosted by The Lancashire and Cheshire Land Rover Owners Club. The event will take place at Baden Hall, Eccleshall, Staffordshire from the 24th to the 29th May 2007, and is open to all members of an ALRC club. Have a look at the dedicated website at www.alrc2007.co.uk for more details and an entry form.
  14. Kev Thanks for that. I will decide what I can add to need so many switches and get back to you. Let's see Fog lights, spot lights, driving lights, rotating lights, side marker lights, work lights, I'm going to need a bigger dashboard
  15. Cheers for that Looks like a good link. Do you know where to get the label inserts for them as the site states supplied blank. Just the job to turn my RRC into a "proper" land rover with excess switches everywhere!
  16. OMG! What a pile of c***! Like you guys, I think the RRS screams footballer or drug dealer nowadays as there are so many of them, but this would certainly make you stand out from the herd. " Look at me. I have no taste" Would look much better with a bonnet light pod, Grizzly Claws, and a snorkel IMHO
  17. Hmm Was looking at these as a robust replacement for filament bulbs. Perhaps they aren't that good after all? HAve you given them some off road abuse, or is this just daily wear and tear?
  18. well this is a LOT better than the LRO forum, but it is going to cost me a lot of money I think! I NEED some of those switches! I have just done a quick google to see what they look like. Where did you get them from? I have a hazzard light switch that is crying out to be replaced by one of those.
  19. Not having seen the switches in question, I can only guess, but try swapping round the wires on 2&3 which sounds like your power and load, and use the 7 as earth again and see what you get.
  20. Some of our gear such as needle gun de scalers have hose tails on, others including the impact spanner just have the fitting screwed directly in to the tool. Never given it much thought why. We do use whip checks on the lines in case of the hose connection failing, and these are easier to use when there is a tail for the connection.
  21. FWIW I would go for the first option, plus mud! Looks far more credible
  22. If the starter is struggling, it might be worth removing the injectors as well as giving the bar a bit of a run up to the chassis. If there is thread lock on the bolt, some heat should sort it out, just don't go mad CAn't think of anything else that hasn't already been suggested.
  23. Yup. Anything over 14.5 v and you risk cooking the battery. Sounds like the regulator pack has thrown its hand in.
