  1. Hi all, To run a 140A (at 35% duty cycle or more) MMA stick inverter welder, what size power inverter (12VDC / 230VAC) would I need? Would any one recommend a reasonably priced onboard welding equipment for emergency jobs?
  2. Hi, 9.00R16 Michelin XZL are supplied by Vrakking in NL: http://www.aircrafttyres.com/900r16__255_1...helin%20XZL.htm I am wondering if anyone has an opinion about the cold rethread process.
  3. Remember Ericsson R310S? It's still going strong after all those years, unlike Nokia 5140. Yet those youngsters at Carphonewarehouse won't even know it ever existed.
  4. Ian, It's DIN standard (DIN # 72591) XLR may be better than a cig connector or the DIN cig connector but it's not as good as MIL standard connectors, eg. MIL-C 5015 screw thread military multipole connectors. It's about function vs price vs interchangeability. You can easily use a device with the red nosed DIN plug in a standard cig socket in any other car, but a device with a XLR connector will only fit another car with a matching XLR socket or an audio power amp :-)
  5. DIN connectors are a tried and tested alternative. XLR are not reliable in the vehicle environment (don't like vibrations).
  6. Paul, It's been a while since I last spoke to them, so it's better to check with ARIS.

You may contact them via a broker who can arrange all paperwork - All Risk Insurance Service (ARIS), A-3400 Klosterneuberg, Wienerstrasse. 134. <www.aris.at> Romana Memic is the very helpful lady who handles all policy business and can be mailed directly at <sekretariat@aris.at>
  8. Can't understand how celebrating a shopping season can offend people of other faiths.
  9. Here is a little quiz for you. Where was the concept of 'political correctnes" created: 1) In pubs, village halls, marketplaces 2) Boardrooms of multinational corporations No prizes for the correct answer.
  10. Hi all, Here's another gem: the Moscow - Irkutsk motorway called Lena. And no, this is not a joke! A few days after these pictures were taken about six hunderd cars were stuck there for a few days.
  11. Thanks, guys, The BIOS setting is AUTO, so it should not affect the readsings. The problem I am having is as follows: I have dumped a FAT32 60GB hard disk to a file sector by sector. Then I restored the file to another HDD but bigger - 80GB. Everything seems to be fine and I can boot the machine from the new disk under Win2kPro. The one snag remains that in Win2k PRO SP4 the new disk is reported by disk management tools as both 60Gb and 80Gb, depending which properties information panel is used. Even though the disk seems to be working fine this will, I suspect, lead to problems in the future. Is there a setting in the MBR and/or FAT that can be edited to correct the problem?
  12. HI all, Would anyone recommend a busy hardware forum whre I could ask a question about hard drive configuration? I need to make a ghosted hard disk show its actual capacity but can't fgure out how. Thanks.
  13. Hello, My SIII has the Superwinch overdrive fitted. It appears to be working but iis very noisy when engaged. I never had a chance to investigate why but am just wondering what could be the cause. Is it lubricated separately from the gearbox? Des it need oil top-up/change?

  15. Ehmmmm ... ever tried going camping using public transport?
  16. landmannnn, Thanks. A latching relay could be an option, but the trouble is when you press a button to disconnect all power supply, the relay will not work because the contacts that supply power from battery (hence to its coil) will be opening at the sime time.
  17. dollythelw, Thanks, that would certainly help. It may be just what I'm thinking of.
  18. Hi all, Here's a query regarding a new project: I am thinking of developing a switch that will be controlled mechanically by a remote actuator. A relay is not an option because the switch must be on at all times (except in emergency when it will cut off all current supply to the vehicle) without causing battery drain. In other words, the body of the switch and the knob for switching it on and off are to be separated. This is because the switched wires have to be as short as possible, but the controls are to be placed at the back of the vehicle. The distance between the two will be greater than 3 meters. I have some ideas how to do it but was wondering if anyone has seen such a thing ready made, just to to save me the time and effort?
  19. In 3W countries, who cares about electronics or lack of it if they have no easy access to spares and service facilities? LR never bothered to support their products as much as other manufacturers, so they lost these markets. It's easier to make flashy cars that need loads of flashy accesories that need fitting by "highly trained specialists" than face the reality of bush motoring where cars are demanded to perform. Guys, forget it. LR will never regain the position it had when the Japanese were still learning how to make and sell cars.
  20. Michele, No, no rims are included in the price at the time of purchase! I am talking about new rims you'll have to buy YOURSELF after you discover it wasn't quite what you were expecting for the money. I have six stauns probably still lying somewhere in the garden shed, of which three look like damaged beyond repair. If you are still interested, you can have the undamaged ones or the whole lot for a few quid plus postage.
  21. Hi Michele, Look at it this way: the price is there to prevent you from wasting your money on useless gimmicks. Mind you, the price also incudes a set of rims which, once drilled for the second vale, can't be reused for ordinary inner tubes.
  22. Hi, You meen this: http://tinyurl.com/5ndt9. Yu can buy it in the States ( http://tinyurl.com/hn5ne ) for less than $90.
  23. Probably not a lot. 90 percent of the world seems to be covered by roads lilke this. Locals don't drive comp safari speced cars and still get from A to B. They just don't feel the urge to rush :-)
  24. Oh, the anguish of learning spelling at school, then learning how to use a spellchecker, just out of respect for the people who may wish to read my writings! Don't tell us you work for FCUK!
