The rubber is for the later models with the different shaped glass. You need some sealant and the aluminium strips on an early one.

Depends on the grade of aluminium. For example - for 1100 the proper annealing temperature is 650F, for 3003, 775F, and for 5052 it is 650F.

Er......correction...........Simex are no longer available in any sizes whatsoever. Therefore your only option will be remoulds going forwards.Jon

You're making excuses now Barker!
Bluddy vapour builders.........you're catching Will Warne up at this rate!

KV6 is a terrible engine with a terrible reputation. Landrover fixed the 1.8 k, but the problems with the V6's were never resolved. In short the simple advice is do not buy a kv6 - period.
If you have one with water troubles, then good luck! Even land rover main dealers refuse to work on them!!!!!!

You dont need to lift the head - the valves will not be damaged.
You will need 8x new pushrods and a cam belt kit. You may need some parts of the rocker gear, you may not - it doesnt always damage them.
Easy enough to fix yourself and more an inconvenience than a major problem.

Meant to add - I also have a short ball ended one aswell, but I've found the long one works best for these fiddly bolts!

Its 5/16" which is 8mm. Part number is FABL10E - its a snap-on one so you wont like the price!
You're welcome to borrow mine, so long as I get it back again - could bring it along to Broxhead tomorrow if you're coming?

My downpipe is held on with socket cap bolts, and i use one of these to undo them!

IIRC I skimmed the brackets on the side that bolts to the axle tube, so not affecting the bolt holes that the calipers bolt onto. The brackets are immense there, so there is plenty of scope to thin them down a little here. If you look at the construction of an disk braked axle with the welded on caliper mounts, and compare the two, the welded on mounts really are quite weedy when compared with these bracket.
I do take your point about what happened to Gresh etc, however i suspect that in a court of law, the simple fact that you have modified the braking system at all, would be enough to land in loads of trouble. I would also point out (although I accept that I'm not 100% certain of the facts) that part of the problem Gresh had was shockingly poor maintenance, such that he ended up with 2 brake calipers on an axle that were not even a matching pair!

Geoff,
I can thoroughly NOT recommend POR15 - I did the floor pan of my beach buggy with it. What a mistake! The stuff peels off in sheets, and is ludicrously expensive.
IMHO you can do a lot worse than good old fashioned chassis black!

Bent parabolics can be re-profiled with a flypress - I have done one of mine which i bent double!
I wouldnt like to try welding springs personally.

All the challenege boys are in the same boat I'm afriad. Simex's are to all intents and purposes no longer available, beyond the few odd ones Devon 4x4 and the like have left in stock. There is a thread about it on the Devon4x4 forum - it seems the recent container load of Simex's they received are the last ones that they ever expect to get in.
Bear in mind the fine to the tyre suppliers is £5000 PER TYRE that they supply illegally, I cant see many people prepared to break the rules!

Use range rover rear disks and hubs, and range rover rear calipers, and you simply need to thin the brackets down by about 1.5mm or so (cant remeber exactly i did it so long ago) - much easier than pissing about making spacers.
IIRC i use drum braked 90 rear stub axles. do a search on here, or possibly the other (old) forum for a post describing how i did mine many years ago.

LT230 speedo drive will not fit into a series transfer box - they are totally different.

Wot he said - basically anything that is not S rated is illegal to sell within the EU. S being the sound rating, which more or less means that anything agressive is no longer be available. (lets face it we all know how badly Simex etc howl when on the road).
This law came in october 2011.
The laws do no apply to remoulds as yet, so Insa Turbos etc should still be available.
You can read a bit more about it http://www.blackcirc...ise-regulations

A 200tdi disco thermostat does have the jiggle valve in it. i'd suggest what you found in the shed isnt a 200disco stat!

I've had this - i solved it by running a 10metre air hose up above the compressor, in a coil, and then dropping it down to a moisture trap. Then taking my outlet hose up high out of the moisture trap, before taking it off to where I was working. The first coil allows the air to cool and hence the water to re-condense before it gets to the moisture trap, as the air coming out the receiver was too hot to allow it to condense until it got to the tool.
This worked for me!

Yes you are absolutely correct. As i suggested earlier these should be hollow dowells (there should be two of them in total). These had also been omitted on mine, and casue the flex plate to break on mine aswell.
The fact that these are missing will have been the cause of the flex plate breaking.

You need the return fitting from a diesel series then this fits bolts in place of the blanking plate that is on the top of the tank.
